3. I wish Colbert would have shut up and let her finish more sentences
She had a lot of great things to say, but Colbert playing Colbert kept interrupting.

Sometimes I wish he would just shut up.

28. I thought he let her talk a lot...although he TRIED
to interrupt, then he'd just give up and go back to his ice cream. To me he seemed amused by her, and he, (using his words) "got nailed" by her, except I don't think he minded.

5. I always loved Katrina. The first time I ever saw her was
on Tweety's show years ago. She actually shut him up and I thought now that's a journalist I like. Then I saw her say a silent "eff you" with her mouth while the camera was still on her. I'm sure it was cut out on the repeat but this was live. She's been a favorite of mine ever since and she never disappoints. I'm looking forward to seeing Jon and Steve tonight in about half an hour.

22. The first time I saw her was on This Week with Stephenopolous
She dominated, and was sharp as a tack, not letting the usual spin get by without a rebuttal. George Will was subdued and Cokie Roberts was obviously flustered. They had a serious opponent to the Republican point of view for a change, so I don't imagine she will be invited back very often.

8. Nice looking pedigree, with CIA daddy and all
Edited on Tue Apr-10-07 12:02 AM by EVDebs
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katrina_vanden_Heuvel

William vanden Heuvel
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_vanden_Heuvel

But hey, if she tells the truth and has liberal tendencies, I'll forgive anything:

""Her father William J. vanden Heuvel served between 1953 and 1954 as executive assistant to founder of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) William "Wild Bill" Donovan during Donovan's tenure as U.S. Ambassador to Thailand.""

This would be around the time the Golden Triangle was really picking up steam as an 'extra-Constitutional' funding pipeline for $ for Congressional payola, enabling the CIA to fund guys with the 'company' viewpoint while giving plausible deniability as to the source of the funds. It appears that this financial arrangement is, today, what Carol Lam was getting wind of before her investigation was abruptly shut down. Can't have that coming out now, can we ?

A real nice tie-in would be for someone to investigate, say, Amb. Graham A. Martin (another Amb. to Thailand -- by JFK in Nov. 1963, and later to Italy, by Nixon in 1969, when the Turkish heroin crop was being bought off in order for the Golden Triangle to take off). Martin's adopted son Glenn Dill Mann was KIA in VietNam in Nov. 1965 while Martin was Amb. to Thailand. Later, when Nixon makes him Amb. to So. VietNam in '73, he was the last of the die-hards committed to throwing more men and materiel into the meatgrinder

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham_Martin

In any event, if the truth about the current CIA/GOP/funding comes out, will we be shocked if 'others' are outed :

""It's all part of a growing ongoing investigation into corruption in defense and intelligence contracts, which already has sent former Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham to prison and, legal sources say, may threaten others in Congress and the CIA. ""

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12634250/

MSNBC may have been a bit premature in the "ongoing" part of the investigation. It has summarily been shut down, it seems, by the Attorneygate scandal now rocking the nation. That is if The Nation will cover all of it, including the drugs etc. Think they will be able to connect the dots to Danny Casolaro's and Gary Webb's reporting ? Not real hard but I'm sure they'll find a way to blow it off.

The rest of the media already has. Thank God (capital G) for DU.

which are at the heart of the current Attorney-gate scandal with Lam's firing and the investigation shut down, although the media wants us to believe 'ongoing', as below, will be fully revealed,

the company wants those 'others' to stay hidden and the GOP will keep right on doing what it has been doing, at the dumb liberals expense. Fooled me once...

38. Mixed feelings about Katrina these days..
I have to agree. I've always loved her, and the way she will fearlessly and intelligently defend liberal causes in the face of the screeching RWers when she appears on talkshows, etc..

However, I was SO angry at the nation's official stance on Election Fraud 2004, that I gave up my subscription. "How could they?", I asked myself. There was sooo much evidence that, at least, warranted a closer look and yet they treated it as a conspiracy theory.

As defeated as I felt about the election results, 'The Nation' just put me over the top. I was convinced there was NO hope left for this country.

Given what we now can prove about Election Fraud 2004, I just find it really hard to forgive and forget. She IS the editor, after all, so I do hold her personally accountable, to a degree.

I'm afraid she'll have to do some real explaining to really gain my trust or my subscription dollars again.

45. re: Mixed Feelings
I was a Nation subscriber for many years, but they lost me by consistently pooh-poohing anything that even approached a right-wing conspiracy. They were pretty active in undermining the credibility of investigations into the original October Surprise story (the one where some evidence suggests that William Casey and possibly George H. W. Bush met with Iranians prior to the '80 election to ensure that the hostages were not released until after the election, giving Reagan the victory over Carter). I still believe this actually happened. This is one example of many, sorry I can't remember the others too well. I believe they've been similarly dismissive of any wrong-doing on the part of the Bushies related to 9/11 complicity, which at the very least has an incredible amount of unseemly connections between the Bushies and the Saudis that need to be examined much more closely.

Anyway we can't expect any revelations of anything related to Casalero's conspiracy octopus from The Nation, it won't happen. Whether or not this has anything to do with her family background in the CIA I don't know, that was new info for me, I didn't know about her dad, that concerns me, doesn't smell right.

That said, I greatly enjoy her media appearances, she's one of the better voices for the left that is allowed to speak on the mainstream media.
