Pelosi going to Syria despite objections

WASHINGTON -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will visit Syria, a country President Bush has shunned as a sponsor of terrorism, despite being asked by the administration not to go.

"In our view, it is not the right time to have these sort of high-profile visitors to Syria," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters Friday.

Pelosi arrived in Israel on Friday in what is her second fact-finding trip to the Middle East since taking over leadership of the House in January.

Her repeat trip, an indication she plans to play a role in foreign policy, is also an act of defiance to the administration, which says such diplomatic overtures by lawmakers can do more harm than good.

11. I agree - its been looking like she has a major crush on him lately. He
is the enemy no matter how "charming" he can be when it suits him.

12. You betcha! With a jerk like him - you have to be cold and blunt.
Otherwise he thinks he can have his way with you and his hands will be all over your back like Merkel.

13. Pelosi is priviliged. I'm glad when she does things to help the poor and
middle class, but I watch her like a hawk. That picture just shows how much collusion goes on between the two established parties.

17. Me too. I want to see a woman president before I die but I want her to have gotten there on her own
While that's not the main reason I don't support Hillary Clinton for president--her stance on the Iraq war is the main reason--it does irk me that most of her support is due to the fact that she's Bill Clinton's wife. Does anyone really think that if she was Hillary Rodham that she'd be a leading candidate for President?

I want a woman president who has made it through her own. If Nancy Pelosi does a good job as speaker--and so far she's doing quite a job with what she has to work with--I would be up there on her bandwagon waving a Pelosi for President sign.

10. Pelosi following the lead of Baker-Hamilton Report and Henry Kissinger
She's doing what Bush evidently cannot stomach. Baker, Hamilton and Kissinger have all stated that you have to keep your friends close and your enemies even closer. Sounds like something out of Godfather movie. Nancy Pelosi is 'one-upping' Bush in world diplomacy. But, anyone could at this point. After all, Rice is still using the "our way or the highway approach to no result."
