White House on Pelosi Mideast trip: "I don't know what she's trying to accomplish"

US lawmakers to visit Syria, White House says "bad idea"

Mar 30, 2007, 20:23 GMT

Washington - A high-level group of US lawmakers plans to visit Israel, Syria and other Middle Eastern countries on a trip to promote regional peace, aides said Friday.

<<snip>>

Leading the group is Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat who is the first female speaker of the US House of Representatives. She plans to address the Knesset, Israel's parliament, on Sunday, her office said.

<<snip>>

Also in the delegation is House member Keith Ellison, the first Muslim in Congress, elected in November when the Democrats won majorities in both chambers. He was already in Israel on Friday.

<<snip>>

Another delegate is Tom Lantos, head of the House International Relations Committee and the only Holocaust survivor in Congress.

<<snip>>

'As you know, we discourage members of Congress to make such visits to Syria,' Perino said. 'I don't know what she's trying to accomplish.'
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are they that afraid of attempting a little diplomacy? Or its possible that they don't know the meaning of the word. Besides, since when can they tell the Speaker of the House where she can travel? Maybe they are afraid her trip will be successful and show that this administration would rather make war instead of giving peace a chance.

23. I just don't understand why
she took the wording out of the latest funding bill that would prohibit the President from declaring war on Iran without congress's permission. I wonder about a lot of these politicians these days. I hope it is peace she is trying to promote. I tend to watch what they do and not what they say - and so far none of the politicians (with a few exceptions) Pelosi included are doing very peaceful things.

16. My husband told me the other day, that he heard on Ed Shultz
that Laura Bush is living in a hotel because Bush is drinking soooo much.

I have noticed lately he looks awful, red eyed and baggy-eyed.......I wonder......

20. I noticed...
back in the fall in a speech that he was slurring his words worse than usual, he was also sweating profusely. At the time, I posted on here about it, that I thought they had him heavily medicated. Because earlier in that week he was more on the frantic side. I sensed the pressure was getting to him.

21. It's obvious he has been medicated a long time....
I just read that he and Laura have hammered out a divorce to occur 6 months after he leaves office.

It doesn't surprise me.....they both look like they can't stand each other anymore....I feel sorry for Laura....

read the "Globe" it's on the front page at your local supermarket!

Well....you have to read something lite in the bathroom.....LOL

My husband listens to Ed Shultz, and says he was reporting that Laura was staying in a hotel......

Laura must feel like a bird in a gilded cage...it's got to be horrible. I can't imagine what she does all day, since Bushco won't allow her to do anything worthwhile, it might make her too popular!

I can't think of one thing she as done as first lady, other then being paraded out when idiot's poll numbers are low!

6. Maybe to tell Israel we're not part of 'From The Nile To The Euphrates'
From the Nile to the Euphrates ?
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/israel/greater-israel.htm

...and neither is Israel. Also, she might remind them that the US doesn't support building a Third Temple. Bush's base has so butchered interpreting the Bible that this kind of rapture-induced numbscullery is actually LEADING to Armageddon.

8. Israel doesn't support building a third temple either
That's why they've thwarted all of the crazy plans to blow up the Dome of the Rock. The third temple dream is limited to fanatics only.

Edited on Fri Mar-30-07 06:35 PM by EVDebs
Besides, the Last Days scenarios of Bush's base are based upon a Jesuit counter-reformation plan to divert attn from the papacy that Martin Luther was pointing to

7. Very interesting
I chalk this one up with Gore's European trip. I suspect the dems are trying to salvage some support from our erstwhile allies by showing that we are not unilaterally behind * and his crime family. They might be able to isolate the Bushies yet...

And reminding people outside this country that Bush will not be around forever.

That's an outstanding delegation Madame Speaker has pulled together for this jaunt, btw.

29. Maybe trying to make some contribution to peace in the region?
Of course Bush doesn't know the meaning of the word peace, in English, Arabic, Hebrew or Persian, so of course he'd think it a useless endeavor.
