A reminder: The Downing Street Memo {relevent re. Britain/Iran standoff}
Edited on Tue Mar-27-07 12:10 PM by CJCRANE
For all those who don't realise what may the reason behind the whole British sailors fiasco...
please refresh your memory of the shenanigans behind the scenes before the Iraq invasion as per:

http://www.downingstreetmemo.com/memos.html

Excerpt:

"It seemed clear that Bush had made up his mind to take military action, even if the timing was not yet decided. But the case was thin. Saddam was not threatening his neighbours, and his WMD capability was less than that of Libya, North Korea or Iran. We should work up a plan for an ultimatum to Saddam to allow back in the UN weapons inspectors. This would also help with the legal justification for the use of force."

(AFIAK there is also a memo that apparently B*sh & Blair were baiting Saddam to shoot down allied aircraft to provide a casus belli).

1. YES!! I wish we could get back to those forgotten memos

Bush did discuss plans to bait Saddam. The damning memos show that. Very sick, they were actually going to paint up a plane with UN colors and fly it directly over Iraq in hopes Saddam would shoot it down in order to bolster support for their personal war! These memos do not and never have had the attention they deserve imo!! Maybe now, considering Iran problems, we can get that out there to be discussed.

4. Maybe
it's pretty much a given (amongst DUers) that the neocons want to take out Iran.

Hopefully this reminder of how they set up "incidents" will inform one or two people.
