DOJ budget cuts
USA office in Chicago was reduced by 25 procecutors.
How many prosecutors did Gonzales eliminate from Lam, Mckay, et al to deal with the shortfall in whatever prosecutions was the 'performance issues'?

3. USA Chicago office down 25 prosecutors due to budget cuts
Since taking his post in 2001, Fitzgerald has brought numerous high-profile prosecutions, including against Republican ex-governor George Ryan and a top fund-raiser to Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich. The recent pace has slowed, however, as the office fights budget restraints. It is down about 25 prosecutors. Durbin blamed the underfunding on the high cost of war.

6. a lot was made of Lams illegal immigration prosecutions
being down like 40% year over year.....

When I saw the Chicago cuts, I wondered about the San Diego cuts.

8. looks like San Diego office is slightly
smaller than Chicago like 127 v 135 attorneys. So I'm guessing Lam had comparable staff cuts.
