The ease with which they could have done this and not gotten caught, unless outbound and Inbound SMTP, POP3 and IMAP connections and connection attempts were logged by IP, is pretty staggering.

If I was involved in that investigation, I would be looking at other logs, especially in the security servers and I would be looking for patterns. I would also be checking out some of the IPs that pop out.

printed documentation somewhere. They do not understand the technology and it's weaknesses.
