"At the pleasure of the President"
Is there any doubt that Alberto Gonzales's favorite phrase in the whole wide world is "at the pleasure of the President"?

Not that he invented it, but it seems to fill him with lusty visions of an unstoppable unitary Executive, as his eyes roll back in his head like A Clockwork Orange's Alex dreaming of the old ultraviolence.

Just sayin'.

BTW, does anyone know when this phrase was first used? Disturbing as it is, it is time-honored, if dishonored by how the current president and his minions have interpreted and expanded it.

He's such an embarrassment. I wish Mexico would just keep him. :(

On Edit: I'm presently watching the Press Conference in Mexico. Dear Leader used that phrase twice within one minute: "At the pleasure of the President."

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO IMPEACH THESE EVIL LEADERS?!? Gonzo, Darth Cheney and Chucklenuts. :P

6. I had never really thought about it until "The West Wing."
Where the phrase was used a lot.

Who the Hell would want to serve Bush's pleasure?

Except of course, Condi.
