Dear President Gore: Please run a nearly no-$$$ campaign--after we draft you!
You've said that you don't want to run--and I can't blame you for that, our presidential campaigns have become such a disgusting, money-grubbing, slush-funding boondoggle for the war profiteering corporate news monopolies to profit from stupid, know-nothing, 30 sec campaign ads, then they ridicule any real ideas, any real discussion, with their know-nothing blather.

But you haven't said you won't serve--if drafted.

So let us draft you. And then let us run the most refreshing political campaign in modern history: a nearly no $$$ campaign...

No TV ads.

No focus groups.

No PR.

No "consultants."

No bullshit.

Just straight talk to the American people.

They know you. You don't need to introduce yourself.

People know that money has ruined our political system. They will love this. And the opposition will be absolutely flummoxed. Nobody has ever tried this, except way back in our history, when we were still a real democracy. We've lost that. We need to recover it. Reality.

If others want to do events, concerts, fine. But you don't do one day of fundraising.

It is an insult that the planet is dying, and people are starving, and $100 million is devoted to a political campaign. To buy power. To control our laws. To get tax breaks. 'Give me $25,000 or you don't have say.' Everyone but the rich are left out.

Enough is enough!

Use whatever free venues are available. People will understand.

A couple of aides. A couple of cell phones. A web site. Some travel money. People can make their own green ribbons and attach them everywhere, as the all-purpose Gore bumper sticker/placard/mailer/ikon.

It doesn't take money. It takes IDEAS. It takes being REAL.

You've had the fun of all the glitz in Hollywood. Congratulations! Now be that guy in the film, that real guy who loves that little stream at his family home. Be that to us. Be the candidate of reality. Be the President of Reality. Take us home with you. Let us draft you. Let us vote for you. Together, we will blow the Bushite electronic voting machines right out of the water!

2. meanwhile, the Republicans will spend $150 million dollars running a pants-wetting campaign in every
state, both air and ground, and Gore will be left sputtering.

er, have you ever actually gone canvassing before?

3. Not in this day and age my friend
PR firms, consultants, and TV ads are necessary to get your message out through today's mainstream media. Most Americans don't spend their time reading about politics on the internet, like you and I do and most Americans will not get the chance to see Gore or any other candidate in person. Most Americans learn about politics through the mainstream media and whether we like it or not Gore or any other candidate will have to get his/her message out to them through the mainstream media until an alternative is developed.

4. I like the idea
And it could work.
And it would only need to work in the primaries, because the national election would take care of itself. Once the party has a nominee then the party could spend the money and contributions from the web could raise quite a lot of money as Dean showed us.
I say go for it, I have already signed the petition and intend to support the idea of a draft Gore campaign, now we just need to convince others.

5. GORE OBAMA 2008
I think Al Gore is keeping his options open right now, watching how the "pre-season" goes. I don't think he yet knows what he will do in 2008.

There is no hurry for Gore to enter the race for 2008. He is doing a great job raising public awareness about the climate crisis. He will testify at a Congressional Hearing in Washington on March 21st.

Gore is also busy working on his next book "The Assault on Reason" - to be published in May. The theme of this book - why we need better decision-making in government - is very timely (whether he runs or not).

Depending on how things pan out, and the reaction to his book, Gore can consider his situation over the summer and announce his decision (or if you prefer - "change his mind") sometime in the fall.

Don't forget that Bill Clinton did not kick-off his campaign until October 1991. But Al Gore already has nationwide respect and name recognition that other wannabees can only wish for!

And by the way - Gore is younger than Hillary, Clark, McCain and Guiliani (I'm not saying age is the most important factor - but you should be ready to serve for a full 8 years).

Unless and until Gore endorses another candidate, we have to assume that he is keeping his options open. So it is too soon for those of us who prefer Gore to switch our allegiance.

Let's all find ways to show our support for Al Gore! :patriot:

Read Rolling Stone magazine: WHY GORE SHOULD RUN -- AND HOW HE CAN WIN

6. Incredibly clueless
I never cease to marvel at how little so many "activists" know of the way it really works.
