The GOP 2008 roster of hopefuls is astoundingly weak....
It's almost as if the GOP masterminds have given up on 2008. I mean, who have we got so far?

McCain? Giuliani? Romney? That's the TOP Tier!

Then we've got:

Tommy Thompson, Jim Gilmore, Sam Brownback, Newt Gingrich

Comparing them to the potential Democrats, this list looks pathetic.

6. Yeah.
I'd hate to have to go up against Sam Brownback. He'd be tough to beat. Yup.

We laugh at our own peril.

14. Yes, the media were ga-ga over Bush.
They ordained him from the start as a "fresh face." I don't see that level of ga-ga this time around.

5. Dems have 3 prospects who ALREADY passed the commander-in-chief test.
Edited on Tue Jan-09-07 12:10 PM by blm
Gore, Kerry and Clark.

McCain is the only GOP who CAN pass that test at this point, but won't do well defending that position with his 8 years of NONSTOP support for Bush's military decisions.

9. Yes, he was an ACTIVE partner in military decisions as VP, and polls after the debates
Edited on Tue Jan-09-07 12:54 PM by blm
showed he passed with the American people overall on the commander-in-chief test.

It is at those debates where many average Americans make their assessments of the nominees in the commander-in-chief test. When they fail, the result is a landslide against them.

And let's not forget that Gore had the COURAGE to volunteer for service in a war that claimed many casualties.

Even when I am critical of some of his past decisions, I still know that if the decision was his alone, he would work hard to make the right one.

I think Mike Huckabee may be the biggest threat the GOP's got.

23. After watching him on C-SPAN
I certainly agree. He seems like a no nonsense regular guy and dropping a 100 pounds makes a nice feel good story. He's far enough to the right to make it through the GOP primaries.

Of course he's a theocratic loon and has got enough scandals to get crushed in the general election.

24. Exactly. He's a Baptist minister, so he gets the Christian fundie vote...
but he also talks middle-of-the-road, so that he can have a broader base than just the fundies -- as opposed to the other fundie candidate, Sam Brownback, who sounds like he's from the Dark Ages most of the time.

He's what ... SEVENTY TWO YEARS OLD??? Three days older than dirt?

That's what I always remind people of when I hear positives about McCain.

20. This makes me hopeful for 08'
And brings one big smile to my face. McCain is about the stiffest competition we have, and really with him drinking the "surge" kool-aid among other things...I'm not fearful.

Romney and Giuliani second??

How funny!!!

HELL, even our lowest of low candidates are BETTER then some of their top candidates.

We have a packed house with Kerry, Clark, Edwards, Obama, Clinton, Vilsack, Biden, Kucinich, Dodd, and maybe Gore?!?

2-0-0-8 shall be our year for the taking, we just have to put our game face on and try not to laugh when they nominate one of these GOP clowns

22. 2008 will be a turning point in politics..
Edited on Tue Jan-09-07 04:10 PM by flaminbats
most of the neocons I still discuss politics with say Cheney and Jeb are their favorites for the Republican nomination. when I mention McCain, Thompson, or Romney..they only laugh and say "maybe..if they win the nomination."

When I mention Newt Gingrich or Giuliani...they only get enraged and say "NEVER!"

When I mention Sam Brownback or Jim Gilmore...they never know who I'm talking about.

At this point..if the Bush worshiper hasn't changed the subject, they often ask "why do we have term limits anyway?" http://2004.georgewbush.org/news/termlimits.asp

It was a Republican Congress that amended the Constitution so any President was limited to a maximum of two terms...but it scares me to hear this same party scream for another term for Bush. If these scumbags had the power..Bush would be our king until he died, and anyone who opposed him would be shot for treason!

these neocons now resent us for the fact that Bush is not a powerless God. so who will they nominate in 2008?..most Republicans don't even care!
