Poll question: What possible excuse can Chimpy come up with for blowing off Ford's funeral?
I think it's galling for a sitting president to skip the funeral of a past president (of his own party, at that!)!

What on EARTH excuse could they present to explain away this unstatesmanlike, rude decision?

2. How classless can you get??
Even all of the former presidents showed up for Nixon's funeral. If there was any funeral that could have been blown off, it was Tricky Dick.

6. Silly me!!
I was thinking they'd go for the smoother "had to get nails done" variation, but you're probably right -- they don't have that much imagination. (Besides, given how his hair looks, it could work!)

4. He's probably worried
something unpleasant will happen to him, depriving the country of his leadership. Besides, maybe somebody told him it's not about him, but Gerald Ford.

The Chimperator doesn't like that. Blind obedience is the call to arms.

8. Yeah, but they can't come out and say that.
'Wouldn't be prudent, not at this juncture.'

Speaking of which, I'll bet Poppy goes; and surely Carter, Clinton and Gore will be there.

He's not skipping the funeral. He's attending - and is, in fact, speaking at - the funeral on Tuesday at National Cathedral. He's just not coming back on Saturday for the ceremony at the Capitol. Reid, Durbin, Pelosi, and many other House and Senate leaders of both parties are missing it, too.

We have plenty of things to beat up on him about, but this isn't one of htem.

16. Ohhh!! Skipping Capitol Rotunda Service & weekend ceremonies
but attending Tuesday's National Cathedral service...

I don't think that was clear in yesterday's early reports. Thanks for the correction!

27. Exactly - it's a little confusing because there are several ceremonies
But Bush is attending the funeral at National Cathedral, which is seen as the "national" funeral.

14. It has to be God
The reason is the fact that god told Bush to go to war in Iraq. God is angry with Ford for going against his commandments so he has decided to tell Bush to stay home.

Ford interviews are released that go against the IdiotBoy, his war and eavesdropping, and the baby is pissed and throwing a tantrum. After all, he'll show that mean old former president a thing or two, even if the man is dead! Yeah! IdiotBoy will show that old Ford who is really the boss!

Besides, there's an all weekend New Year's party at the pig farm to attend, and he would miss all the fun if he had to leave. I understand Condi will be jumping out of a cake while eating it, too, and Cheney has promised a real Bang! of a surprise!

those 3-hour bullshit political posturing planning sessions on Iraq, but anyone with his head screwed on straight knows there's no excuse.

Chalk it up to a very petulant, peevish, spoiled brat whose maturity level never developed into the adult level, along with the fact that he hasn't a clue about what "class" is all about.

Yep. The invasion won't prevent him from 2 weeks vacation or dancing photo-ops with Pickles, but it will keep him from a state funeral. He is a really pathetic man.

26. Ford on Iran Contra:
"Whoever initiated this covert operation deserves condemnation."

In 1974, Ford picks Rockefeller. Bush, who was favored for the job is snubbed. Bush found out about Rockefeller on TV.

The Fords (and the Reagans) detest the Bush family. The Bush's were simply not invited.
