2. I share his revulsion at the Gates hearing, but I have to point out that this

is a Congress with an 18% approval rating. It's not as if they are impressing anybody with their Bush ass-kissing performance, all in the service of war profiteers.

That's the old Congress. We'll see what the new one does.

I was interested in Sen. Kennedy's demeanor. He's been a stalwart against the war. He asked few questions and was very quiet. I get the feeling that those who truly represent the American people may be privy to some agreement to get Rumsfeld out, and can't do much else right now to hold these criminals accountable and to get us out of Iraq. They just want this Bushite "pod people" Congress to be over with. What we are seeing are interim arrangements until the new Congress takes over. I don't expect anything so good as the Democrats turning around as one, and mooning blivet, during his "state of the ruination" speech. And I don't have any illusions about our political representatives, even the good ones. They are almost all embedded in a filthy dirty corporate/war profiteer hogpen, to some degree. But I do think the new Congress is going to be interesting, if not revolutionary. And I don't think it's going to be obsequious--as McGovern (rightfully) accuses this one of being.

The end of our democracy happened back with the passage of the "Help America Vote for War Act" (electronic voting, with TRADE SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code, owned and controlled by Bushite corporations) in 2002. Almost all the Democrats voted for it. So that tells you something about them. Now we're trying to crawl out of that bomb crater, and restore government of, by and for the people. It's not going to be easy. Some of the Democratic leaders--maybe a lot of them--are with us. We just have to keep on them, and rebuild our faith in ourselves as a progressive and democratic people. It's not about them so much as it is about us.
