This personified the civil union vs. marriage debate.

This is regarding the New Jersey State Supreme Court ruling which ruled that allthough gay and lesbian couples are entitled to the rights, responsibilities, and securities of marriage they are not nessecarily entitled to marriage itself. They gave the legislator 180 days to decide and it appears it will be either civil unions or marriage that is legalized. Which do you think will make it?

1. I favor/prefer same-sex marriage, but....

If NJ legislators decide to set up a system of civil unions, it's still a step in the right direction. Vermont and Conneticut have already done it (with Massachusetts going for full gay marriage)...how long before California, New York, Oregon, Washington state, and Hawaii follow their lead, with similar systems of same-sex civil unions (if not full marriage)?

Again, as a gay American, it's not my ideal solution (I'd prefer full same-sex marriage rights), but it still covers a lot of the basics and allows us, as LGBT people, the time and opportunity to "prove" the value of our relationships to the rest of society (not that we should have to in the first place, of course).
