What are Your Three Favorite '08 Tickets?
I know it's early, but the Democratic Congress hasn't yet been sworn in and, hell, people are going to be declaring awfully soon (Vilsack already did).

So why NOT partake in some '08 love?

Anyway, I am a DEMOCRAT. I can't foresee myself NOT voting for the Democrat in '08. And, truth, be told, I like all of them so far. Hillary Clinton, Evan Bayh, John Kerry, Joe Biden, Tom Vilsack, John Edwards, Barack Obama (if he runs), Al Gore (if he runs), Wes Clark. I have plenty of disagreements with some of them, and I'd certainly prefer some over others. But they all strike me as genuine public servants, smart, capable people who would all make decent (even great) presidents.

That being said, what are your favorite tickets at this very early stage?

In this order...

1) Edwards/Obama
2) Obama/Richardson
3) Obama/Sebelius

2. Gore/Sebelius -- The Dream Team
Edited on Wed Nov-29-06 02:45 AM by longship
If Al runs, it won't be 2000. This time he'll go all the way. Running mate has to be a minority or a woman, or both. If I thought Tubbs-Jones would go for it, I might be advocating Gore/Tubbs-Jones. To be realistic, I think the Veep will be nobody who's run before.

Sebelius? Why not. She's great, charismatic, and a true Dem. Plus, she's the daughter of former US Congressman and OH governor John Gilligan.

Obama? Sure, in 2016. I'll bet that he'd win, too. Or, in the case that Gore is a one-termer, 2012.

13. Would that be unprecedented?
Unless Gore simply chose not to seek a second term, that is.

I don't think I recall ever hearing of a VP challenging a president running for a second term. Has that ever happened?

15. She's my Gov.
and I think she would be great, albeit a bit unknown.
She's also a really good choice to confound the wingnut pundit class, as she is a born again Democrat.

31. Born again Dem???
She's the daughter of life-term Democrat, OH Dem Congressman, OH Dem Governor, John J. Gilligan. I think she's a life-long Dem, not a born-again.

7. I think these would be mine
Clark/Dean
because Clark would be great internationally, Dean would be great domestically, especially with getting universal health care started in a sane and rational manner.

or Dean/Clark

Others I'd like to see run would be Kucinich, McCaskill, Feinstein.

29. Commend you on thoughtful pairings...
I'm not ready to make any picks yet though I am not feeling good about a Hillary ticket. But I really like the thoughtful way you are distributing foreign policy experience with charisma and region. Richardson would definitely be a good veep choice for Obama or Edwards.

I really don't see Obama at the top of the ticket, don't get the Obama frenzy, and frankly don't think he is as charismatic as Edwards or Clark. I also find Ford to be a far more charismatic speaker and think Ford would be an interesting surprise veep pick, even after the senate loss.

Obama strikes me as sort of a black Evan Bayh without the experience - attractive, articulate and incredibly dull.

What with Biden not bringing a state (him bringing Delaware is like Kerry bringing Massachusetts) he needs Warner, Richardson or Bayh on the veep slot, although I'm sure that most of DU would flip in a bad way over a Biden/Bayh ticket, or vice versa - though this ticket would bring the center in the General Election. I've always been a Biden fan, even despite his credit card stance on parts of the bankruptcy bill (he was representing his constituents)

I totally don't get the Obama thing. He simply doesn't seem that inspiring to me and also gives me sort of a overly moderate New Democrat vibe that doesn't sit well. Him being anti-war seems a bit easy because of timing - he didn't have to make a really hard choice.

I love Gore but have mixed feelings about him running again - because of the way "the Media" treats him. How he would do in the general election seems so unpredictable - not based on his merits but in terms of people who will blindly go against him - sort of the same thing that worries about H. Clinton. I worry that with both H. Clinton and Gore that the opposition vote may be too calcified and motivated.

Hillary, while she certainly has brains and organization and I have no qualms about how she would run the country, is the opposite of a feel good candidate and I believe that a candidate should feel positive and happy - the vibe that Bill Clinton and John Edwards give off.

3. Obama/Gore (not gonna happen, but since this is only a wish list, what the hell...)

The ticket I think we WILL wind up with is Clinton/Obama. I especially don't like the idea of Obama's identity becoming "Clintonized", but I really think that will be the final ticket. I hope I'm wrong.

But in all likelyhood...I think a Clinton/Obama ticket is probable. The MSM is pitting it Clinton vs. Obama...ignoring the idea that they may team up.

Put any of those three in any order on a ticket together and I'll be happy. I also think we'll win.

In addition to those three, I'd love to see Russ Feingold or John Lewis in the VP slot.

So maybe...

Gore/Lewis
Obama/Edwards
Edwards/Feingold

36. Gore/Johnson, Johnson/Edwards, Gore/Edwards
That's Tim Johnson of South Dakota. Five terms in the US House, two terms in the Senate, term expires in 2008, went to public universities his whole life. None of this Ivy-league Skull&Bones shit. Pro-choice, anti-Telecom-'96, pro-gun. Saw him debate lobbyist John Thune live in 2002 at the State Fair, where he did a pretty good job and made good sense. Beat Thune for re-election even in a pro-Bush state a year after 9/11. And his son served in Iraq, one of the (very few) elected representatives that can say that.

37. Gore +
Gore/Clark because Clark has successful experience in stopping a civil war i.e; Bosnia

Gore/Dean because Dean is THE MAN when it comes to organizing!

Gore/Edwards because Edwards is a common man up from the people who has made a career out of
"sticking it the man" (suing corrupt corporations)

Gore because he has the experience, he has the vision and he has history on his side. Every presidential candidate who has had an elections stolen has WON whenever they've chosen a rematch. Americans love these candidates. It is part of our mythology.
