A know a secret: The Daily Show does not lean left
And if Dems don't perform, start looking as stupid as Repukes, are crooked like Repukes, and generally as inept as Repukes then we will begin to see skit after skit after skit mocking the Dems.

The really shitty part would be if Fox has their right leaning show which WOULD be right leaning and so Dems are getting hammered from two potentially popular shows. And obviously even if the Dems do perform the Fox show will blast them.

2. I'm a bit confused by your post.
Which Fox show are you referencing?

The Daily Show is a comedy show, and everyone's fair game; Democrats have been the butt of jokes many times; whatever makes 'em laugh. I doubt Democrats will start looking as stupid and acting as crooked and inept as Republicans, so no need to worry about that.

5. There is a proposed once a week "conservative" daily-show-like show for Fox
It will have a conservative bias to counter the Daily Show's supposed liberal bias. The OP argues (correctly) that the Daily Show doesn't have a liberal bias, it's just that there are so many more conservatives to make fun of at the moment, that it might seem that way.

But Jon Stewart has repeatedly made jokes about how the Dems would tank yet again, about yet another boring Kerry speech, about countless people just being idiots regardless of party affiliation. The supposed liberal bias is easy to paint, though, because it is obvious that Jon Stewart is a Dem, and because the Repubs are so good at looking like jerks that the jokes just write themselves.

11. Thanks. Now I'm gonna puke.
Conservatives AREN'T funny - can't imagine anything worse than a FOX "Daily Show". :puke: The Daily Show is comedy (as we've pointed out); liberal leaning, but certainly not targeting any one group of people exclusively. FOX's sorry attempt won't work.

21. I guess
They will have some really cool jokes about people who are poor and starving to death and have to rely on government handouts for survival because all the jobs in their area were sent to india. That's a real kneeslapper.

Well at least conservatives might think it was funny.

3. The Daily Show makes fun of everyone who deserves it.
This is why it's real comedy. I don't think that FOX's show will be funny because they will be trying too hard with their one sided look at us. It's like after Bush was inaugurated, some of the late night comedians still hammered Clinton and it wasn't funny because the joke was old and worn out. Yet, Bush and company were providing so much good material that real comedians like Stewart, Maher and Colbert picked up on it and ended up winning with gold.

32. But you see, that's exactly the problem with having a "liberal media."
Generally liberals are open minded and critical of reality in general. When it works out liberal (Often) then that's fine. But liberals, much more quickly than conservatives will jump on their own when they believe the evidence deserves it. Conservatives don't care that Bush has told so many lies in his Presidency. Can you imagine liberals tolerating this from one of their own. We would have already hung him out to dry.

It's like this: not all conservative folks are stupid, but virtually all stupid people are conservative.

6. Satire works best when directed at those in or with power.
So, duh, it's been pretty anti-Republican for many years because, well, the Republicans have had all the power! Amazing how this comes as some kind of weird shock to the righties. You are right, they will be there the instant the Dems misstep too.

12. If Anyone Read The Article By Maureen Dowd In Rolling Stone
with BOTH Stewart & Colbert... they both stated that they do a Comedy Show and in fact the only Democratic family input Colbert could remember while growing up was a picture of Kennedy. And that, he said was in his opinion, more because he was CATHOLIC and not from a Democratic family.

Stewart mainly stated he felt that regarding Bush it was more about HIS EGO rather than Bush being Dimwitted. And he never actually said he was a Democrat. Both were just talking "comedy!"

16. That makes perfect sense to me. The more sensitive DUers better be
prepared--the Dems are going to be skewered a LOT from now on, from those we used to think were "us."

Personally, I'm okay with it, but there will be some rants and raves on this board starting in January, you can be certain.

The mighty MF has spoken. Thanks for the heads up. I've been thinking TDS has been a bit edgier lately. Glad MF is around to set me back on the course of television purity and righteousness.

:sarcasm: of course.

And that's what was reported. They could have been avoiding the obvious questions, who knows??

34. Well, yes they will. But. let's keep in mind that the expectations
for the Dems to 'perform' is over a two year period, one of which is consumed by a Presidential election and campaigning. This is vs. 12 years of GOP dominated government.

It's funny (ironic) how Cons coming to power in 1994 didn't get a two year "do it or we'll boot your ass out!", supposedly after '40 years of Democrat Party control'.

20. I don't think The Daily Show is as funny overall as it used to be.
And quite frankly we have almost quit watching it. If someone online says it was extra good, we catch it later or on C&L or YouTube.

For some reason folks at DU think they have to defend him when someone is critical.

He is just not as funny as he used to be because there is that feeling that there's a man behind the curtain.

33. I'm like you. I think that Colbert took with him some of the best
and that putting Cobert and Stewart together was enough for one excellent show. Now we have two mediocre shows (GOD I'm sick of The Word on Colbert--his interviews are by far the best part of his show).

35. Watching both is the highlight of both of my nights
I LOVE the word, most of the time. I think the shows are rarely mediocre, and actually think of the two as one show - I wouldn't watch one without watching the other, and I never miss either one.

I dunno - I think they're both brilliant, although some of the non-Jon bits on TDS seem kind of silly to me - they need a new correspondent I think, but it's doubtful they'll find another Colbert.

26. Yes, it is liberal. It is not Democratic.
That's why it has credibility. Its not a partisan voicebox. The Show criticizes Democrats from the perspective of a liberal when they deserve it, and they often do. No, its not Air America, but yes, it is liberal.

even when i thought they were doing it per rove talking points that the media has helped to perpetuate an illusion of the democrats not giving credit where i see credit due the democrats. and you are right, if stewart feels dems aren't doing the job, he will equally and harshly go after them. no doubt.

Letterman asked John Edwards why anyone would want to be President and "take it in the shorts" every night on shows like his. I believe Edwards responded something to the effect "most of it is self-inflicted and deserved".
