1. I am thinking Congressman Tim Ryan of Niles for Senate
He has been in the House for several terms. He is good looking, speaks well, speaks in the language of Ohio, and would not have the NRA gunning for him. He may even get the NRA endorsement.
3. i hope ford's thinking about challenging casper milquetoast for his
senate seat even as we speak. he came soooooo close. and for an african-american democrat with the baggage of being from memphis and his nutty aunt and uncle hanging around his neck, mr. ford did a fantastic job.
Though I don't think Voinovich is up until 2010. I like Hackett and think if he won the Paul Hackett & Sherrod Brown relationship would be like the John Glenn & Howard Metzenbaum relationship. Though Tim Ryan might have a better chance of winning. I like his and Kendrick Meek's late night "attack Bush" sessions on the House floor.
And Lamar Alexander may retire in 2008 especially if Trent Lott beats him for Whip for the Republicans. Ford may face another open seat in 08. I just wonder if by then he'll be married and maybe even be a father by 2008. That might have helpped him this time.
6. Do we REALLY want to nominate Ford for senate again?
I know the consensus within the chattering class is that he ran this great perfect campaign, but is there really no one else currently serving in TN or on the horizon who would have a better shot?
9. Part of the problem with the Ford campaign were the lies about his standing
in the polls.
It is hard to come back and lose by only 3 points, when there is a Mason-Dixon poll dated 11/3 being flashed all over the screen everytime your contest is discussed on national TeeVee and elsewhere showing you at a 9 to 12 points at a disadvantage from the date that the poll comes out all the way to election day! That poll was "used" for just this reason, that I can assure you!
