That's what you need to bring to the table to run for an open seat, or against an incumbent, for the U.S. House of Representatives.
To run against an 'entrenched' incumbent (one who has served two, or three, or more terms) you better bring at LEAST twice that much. Just to TRY and get elected to the very lowest rung of our national offices.
So...you either have to be VERY wealthy, or come to the party already beholdened to the deep pockets guys. Joe Six-Pack need not apply.
In the 1st District in Alabama, 2 term incumbent Jo Bonner had only about 1 million. Poor baby. Democrat challenger Vivian Beckrele had... About TWELVE. THOUSAND. DOLLARS. PERIOD. Our little local South Baldwin County Democrats (100 members) gave her about 10% of that. And NOTHING from the state party or the national party. She's a 'write-off'.
This just sux, big time. The whole damned campaign finance system blows. End of rant. Thank you for your time. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program. :argh:
