VIDEO: Mudcat Saunders (Webb advisor) on Tucker
Watch Mudcat tell Tucker Carlson how great Jim Webb really is:

I love this guy! "Jim Webb and people like him were the reason Hadrian built the wall." Brilliant.

1. Mudcat!
Hometown boy makes good. He could be the next Jim Carvel as long as he doesn't marry a witch like Matlin or however you spell her name. I don't agree with him 100% but then I don't agree with anyone 100% but he did a great job helping Warner get elected and hopefully he'll help Webb out too.

2. Tucker says Webb
"is within spitting distance" of winning. Seems appropriate with the talk/rumors of Allen spitting at his ex.

3. I really don't like Saunders at all.
Where's the payoff with this guy? Every time I hear him speak it's like 2 minutes of set-up with
no punchline. Sorry. He's no Carville.

I also dislike his disparaging other Dems. He was one of the main Ds featured in Candy Crawley's
CNN Special on the Dem "wuss" factor. Saunders referred to "Metropolitan Opera Democrats." in a
very pejorative way. Well, I happen to be one of those Met Opera Democrats. I believe in the arts,
and I believe in people aspiring to something better than the run-of-the-mill. I reject a cultural relevancy
that asserts that Paris Hilton's latest CD has the same "I'm OK, You're OK" standing as the latest
CD by the NY Philharmonic.

If Ds on an individual basis need to reach out to constituencies outside of their own lifestyle, then
I would posit that such an outreach is more-readily accomplished by the Metropolitan Opera Wing
of the Party than it would be by the NASCAR Wing of the Party. I'm really getting tired of the received
opinion that intellect and world experience is outweighed by the home-grown wisdom of the guy
holding the "Get A Brain Morans" sign. Such distrust of intellect is used against caring and informed
politicians like Bill Clinton while elevating idiots like Bush to the level of Everyman.

Rant over.

4. hey, welcome to the South!
you cry about being labeled as a "Metropolitan Opera Democrat"...try being a Democrat from Texas. We're pariahs. Dave Saunders and Steve Jarding aren't taking any shit from the "Met Opera Dems" anymore, and THEY'RE RIGHT. Why shouldn't we support Democrats who are getting the job done in the South? The payoff with Saunders and Jarding is that they got Mark Warner elected in Virginia, a feat the DNC could NEVER have done.

5. I have to differ with you a bit .....
....If you listen to what and how Saunders speaks - and get past the twang - he's clearly a smart man. He is as much a cultured person as the "Metropolitan Opera Democrats" you mention. Just a different culture. But listen closely to him. The historical references, the verbal framings he employs, and on and on. I don't hear him lowering himself to some 'Get A Brain Morans' level, but I *do* hear him talking to those people.

Condemning him without understanding the culture of which he is a part may not be a smart thing to do.

By the way, for what its worth, I've lived in, and been a part of, both cultures .... his and yours.

7. This guy is extremely smart. He knows he isn't trying to win a
national campaign, but rather one in the southern state of Virgina. He knows what plays and doesn't play so he doesn't need to appeal to voters and/or democrats anywhere but VA.
