| How can we bring back Air America to metro Atlanta? |
|
The radio station that carried Air America here (1690 AM) recently got sold and the new owner has converted it to a classical music station or something like that. Is there anything we can do to have this back? I really do miss my Randi Rhodes. There's only so much of Neal Boortz and Sean Hannity you can take in the morning and afternoon commutes.

| 1. Do you know who the new owner is? |
|
Was their purpose to promote Classical music, or to shut up progressive ideas?

| 4. With all the radio stationsin the Atlanta, you would think they would |
|
have found one by now, huh?
I know the old station still carries Al Frankin every day, but as far as I know, that's the only show they air.
I've also heard that one of the principal investors in AAR lives in Atlanta, so I'm hoping he is still trying to do something!

that you may find of interest. It's a grassroots effort devoted to getting AAR back in Atlanta. http://www.atlantaprogressivetalk.com /

| 6. We have the same problem in Philly. |

They've been gone for a while now. They were originally on a station with a poor quality signal (which dropped in and out as you drove) and did very little advertising, if any (I never saw any ads).
They didn't do well and it was probably because of these things.
IMHO a higher quality signal along with some advertising could get them a good share of the market. They're plenty of progressives in this market, and even more moderates, who might be interested in listening. But they've failed in the market once so no one wants to take a chance.
What's needed is a person or persons who have the resources and are willing to take some risks and spend some money to do it right because they believe in it and think that it can be profitable while serving the public good at the same time.
I think the right has proven that interesting angry people will find an audience but I'm not convinced that ideology is important in finding that audience.
