Boehner Pledges To Privatize Social Security: ‘We’re Going to Get Serious
Boehner Pledges To Privatize Social Security: ‘We’re Going to Get Serious About This’

In an interview with the Washington Times published yesterday, House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) promised to privatize Social Security:

Q: Where does Social Security reform stand?

A: I just met with Congressman , a few minutes ago with his SAFE Commission . In 1990 when I first ran for Congress, I talked about the need to reform these big entitlement programs because the sooner we began the process, the easier it would be to make the necessary changes so that these programs were sustainable for the long term. … If I’m around in a leadership role come January, we’re going to get serious about this.

Privitization plans championed by Boehner and others would sharply cut guaranteed benefits and are opposed by the overwhelming majority of Americans. Nevertheless, Boehner is just the latest prominent conservative to reaffirm his commitment to privatize Social Security in the months and years to come.

2. YAY!
I'm glad they're going to use this issue as the election nears... with the middle east in chaos and energy prices spiking due to the heat... the stock market should provide any still-easily-led republican supporters to think long and hard about this idea!

an overwhelming majority of Americans are opposed to. Beats me how they keep getting elected. Beats me how they mange to avoid getting tarred and feathered everywhere they go.

5. No private social security
The stock market is in the doldrums. My personal rate of return for the year on my 401K is 0.00% & that with having half my money in a savings type account. The other half is where I have lost money on a stock market linked fund.

This is what they want to do. Put hundreds of billions of dollars into the stock market. the shares go up & then they say "look what a good job we did with social security". But shares will become overpriced. A market correction will ensue. This will cause everyday people to loose billions. It could wipe out entire social security funds. This will lead to a new "great depression".

9. We have a winner ...
THAT is the formula right there ...

1) They get to gloss over the fact that they have drained the SS reserves ...

2) Those who have paid into it will have NOTHING to show for it, and will start over ...

3) The stock market will EXPLODE at first, thereby allowing those with great holdings in the market to become insanely rich AND for the republicans/Bushco to stomp around saying how great they are with the economy ...

4) A decade or so down the road, as the market stabilizes, the retirements of the average american will be in constant question ...

12. Don't forget the cherry on the top
Can you imagine the brokerage commissions on trillions of dollars of social security money when it's 'invested' in the Grand Casino on Wall Street? The finance sector loves this idea.

6. Show Boehner (Boner) the door! The man is a crook, he is so ego
driven and he does not speak for anyone but himself and the Repuglican greed that wants to take every security away from Americans.

Boehner is another total loss from Ohio. How I wish I could afford to leave Ohio.

leeches on the ass of the American public, that takes a lot of gall.

edit: There is no reason for us to be paying a salary to this jackal. He's worthless, has never, and I mean never performed one relevant or honest days work while in office, and he's just like the rest of his pathetic sticky fingered buddies, just out for what he can beg, borrow, or plain steal.

8. That's the ticket, Boehner. Raise the "third rail" issue in an off-year
congressional election when the party holding the WH traditionally loses seats. Smart move, Bonehead.

10. I'm "entitled " to it because I've paid into it for years. Keep your
filthy Republican paws OFF Social Security (and everything else, for that matter).

Tell all those Repubs that "hate" Social Security how "serious" you are....OK?
