1. Pure unadulterated pride (isn't that a sin??)
Okay, so "conservatives" give it their best shot in 2000 and vote for the drug addicted military deserter. But they do it again in 2004, solely because as "conservatives" they are way too proud to vote any other way because that would be an admission of ignorance. And May this Veteran dare add, their 2004 vote is an admission that they don't really give a fuck about our country after all; their pride is much more important to them.

2. Willfull ignorance...
comes to mind. I really think that many people would much rather be told how it is rather than make their own educated decision. It boils down to laziness and disinterest.

3. That's part of it,
both hate for democrats and racism, and a whole bunch of other RW ideas (greed is good, people are either good or evil, giving money to the rich creates jobs, etc) are the result of spin, lies of omission and outright lies by those who benefit from a divided people, those who own the instrument to do just that; the media.

4. Fear. Just simple fear.
Fear may not be the direct reason. But indirectly, fear is the reason that any country has ever followed a regime that actively works against the interests of its supporters -- that, or ignorance of a better way.

6. Fear...
Edited on Mon Jun-12-06 01:23 PM by Klukie
I think what ultimately seperates the two parties is the willingness to conform. Democrats by nature tend to ask questions and challenge authority, while republicans are quite comfortable being told what their views should be. It isn't really a matter of politics as much as it is a personality characteristic. Now add in the element of fear and anyone who stood up on shaky legs just had them kicked out from under them.

7. Bipolar mindsets
Everything is easier in black and white.

Good vs bad

Liberal vs conservative

My team vs your team

I honestly think the last is at the heart of it. Its like how you cheered for your high school team at every football game. You had NO idea about the people on the other side. You just knew you were part of your side. So you cheered. It is easier to learn about why voters vote Repub by studying team fan psychology than by studying political psychology.

In short .... they're fucking stupid.

8. Fear and Greed
Those are the two principles that seem to be the empowerment for the Republican base, especially with the poorer class.
