Anger
What is it? How is it modeled. And how do people really know you're angry?

You yell and scream. You flick spittle specks on the folks in the first row.

You get all red and use foul language. Really loudy. A variation on the model above this. Podium banging or air chops are often employed for the inflective value.

You speak very, very quietly, but with intenisty and a seething quality to the rythim of your breathing. Clenched teeth are an effective option.

You speak in a scholarly fashion and craft your words carefully, going for adjectives that fall into either the 'scathing' or 'acerbic' columns.

In all cases, you engage the object of your ire directly. If he's present you look him in the eye. Some might benefit from some exceedingly judicious use of either the chin jut or the chest puff; or not.

In all cases, you maintain a firm grasp on reality and facts. Puffery sells soap and cars, not ideas.

But the one inescapable requirement of doing good anger is to believe to your core what you're advocating.

For all the thespianic skill you might posseses, any hint of a lack of honest passion and deep belief of position is instantly appreciated by the object of, and the audience for, your anger.

And then you lose.

All of it.

We have many leaders who say they're angry. They model it differently.

We also have many angry leaders. They model it differently.

Our job?

Find the one who believes it. To her/his core. Who is clear and uncompromising in her/his views. Not *your* views. His or hers. And who doesn't merely skillfully model that as righteous anger, but rather, is passionately angry.

Then you will have found the real leader. The Alpha Dem.

3. not every crackle of thunder brings rain ...
is it more important for leaders to see clearly or feel deeply? taken to excess, clarity may see the path but inspire no one to walk it; and passion may lead us all over a cliff ...

in one thing there is certainty - those who measure and count and poll and seek the statistical center have no passion beyond a cold, calculated pursuit of "winning" ... few of us carry bell curves in our hearts ...

so, uncompromising in her/his views cannot be only good; it must be considered by its direction as well as its intensity ...

to me, the right leader is one who starts with the right values and is passionate about them, and then can formulate policies and programs consistent with those values ... it's all very yin and yang ... and perhaps a little Cheech and Chong as well ...

7. Implicit is the ability to hold a certain view on Monday ....
... then to crtitically assess the changing landscape on Tuesday ..... and to hold, or not, the same view on Wednesday.
