1. And if you are a Billionaire...It's more like a Lear Jet and a Home
In Aspen.

Boggles the mind.

2. Very true.
Instead of helping people who have no homes, we're helping rich people buy extras.

3. Guess I should have put "Leopold" or "Is it just me?" in my thread title.

4. What percentage of $40,000 is $17 compared to
what percentage of $1,000,000 is $43,000?

The rich get a X% cut while the working class get an X% cut in taxes.

23.255 X $43,000 comes out to appox $999,965
2352.941 X $17 comes out to $40,000

5. It's significant.
$17 / $40,000 = 0.000425 or 0.0425%
$43,000 / $1,000,000 = 0.043 or 4.3%

In other words, the rich get roughly 100 times the benefit that the working class gets.

In fact, it's almost exactly 100 times. Coincidence?

7. Here's the first draft of my letter to the editor using the
numbers you gave.

Bush and the Republican congress gave out more tax breaks this year. They said they are good for everyone. Some pundits pointed out that a person making $1,000,000 a year would get back $43,000 while a person making $40.000 a year would only get back $17. Bush supporters say the rich get back more because they make more, but it goes deeper than that. It is the percentage of the cut that makes the difference.

A person making $1,000,000 a year gets back 4.3%, where a person making $40,000 a year gets back 0.043%. If a person making $40,000 a year got the same tax cut as the millionaire they would get back $1,720.

I know I will be accused of waging class warfare, but I don't care. Why should we sit idle while Bush and his fellow Republicans wage class warfare against us?
