Seriously, I have never seen a Repuke subject him/herself to the mockery that goes along with a Daily Show or Colbert Report interview.

What do you think?

2. I've seen O'Reilly and C. Powel on TDS
I've seen a couple of "conservatives" on Colbert. One was Luke someone or other this week. It's odd when they go on Colbert, because he has to pretend to agree with them while putting them down. It's kind of subtle and would go over the head of someone who wasn't familiar with the show.

22. Colbert just had my VERY stupid Repuke Rep Wednesday night.
Most of the time the "Better Know a District" interviews are Democrats who are looking for something they get very rarely, "face time" on national television. He explains the concept on one of the first "Better Know a District" interviews.

He also did Georgia's 1st district Rep. Jack Kingston (Republican) in the first of the 434 part series, before they knew better than to do these interviews.

With the Dems, they usually know, or are in on the joke, I'm not sure the RePukes fully understand what they are in for, I think most of the Dems do.

Here's the link to the video and my post from yesterday:

<http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_colbert_report/videos/most_recent/index.jhtml>

BTW, it's a 434 part series because, after the resignation of "Duke" Cunningham, he declared "Duke's" district "Dead to Me" for not "having his back."

Try to keep in mind, it's a Comedy show. Comedy through satire and "truthyness."

although he may have been too dumb to know it

it does seem more Democrats go through the gauntlet, however. More of a sense of humor, perhaps?

But you probably are right that the Repuke was too dumb to figure out what was happening.

15. Plus both Stewart and Colbert are liberal, or at least, anti-establishment
(even though Colbert plays a Hannity/O'Reilly type)

I think conservative politicians are afraid to go on the shows because they fear being ripped into even more than other "victims" of the show.

17. I've seen four repuke congresspersons on...
Haven't seen the latest because we're about a week behind. Two got the joke and played along fairly decently - definitely aware that they were on TV and the chance that they would be seen by constituents in their home districts was probably fairly high. Two others did not seem to have a clue what Colbert's show was about, and said all sorts ignorant things until he took pity on them.

Of course, editing is probably a major factor in the segment. How long does he have for interviews - seems as if he does fifteen minutes or a half hour? And of all of that, only the five "best" minutes gets aired.

According to a New York Times article a few weeks back. At the time, all the representatives on the show said they'd do it again except for Barney Frank.

Edited on Thu Apr-27-06 05:28 PM by Feeney2
Two nights ago, Colbert had an atheist on promoting his book. He probably had something smart to say but Colbert never let up. It was hilarious. I thought if a right wing fundie would subject themselves to that. No way.

You know the ones where they twist everything the Congressperson says in an interview in their office. I swear there I've only seen Dems.

21. Last night they had a Repub. congressman from GA...
Some guy with a thick moustache. His name is similar to Gingrich. Colbert told him he agrees with him that gay couples shouldn't be allowed to adopt, and then "went further" and said he doesn't think gay people should be allowed to have drivers licenses (You know, to show the absurdity of it). He told the congressman he didn't want his highways "all gayed up." It was pretty funny how the guy thought he was serious.

14. One might. Arrogance outweighs their common sense.
That must be why the Peggy Noonan appeared. I think that woman has serious mental health issues, maybe not quite as serious as Ann Coulter's though.

She was quite literally head-over-heels over the guy. If she wasn't down on her knees, she was close to it.

And yes, I, too, think she has serious mental issues. She's just sad. Kinda like the pathetic susan "Gidget Goes to the republi-CON Convention" molinari.

18. I know why...
Because the Colbert Report is the conservative version of the fake news program so of course they'll just bring Democrats on there to poke fun at.

I saw Republican Jack Kingston on the report once and Michael Brown.

28. That's because Repubs are ripped apart at the Daily Show
Face it: Stewart makes fun of Republicans a thousand times more than he does democrats. Why would Repubs go on a show that mocks them so cruelly everyday? The Daily show is a lot more Democrat friendly and that is just a fact.

Repubs actually think Colbert is on their side. I've seen a number of them so totally not "get" it. I think maybe they're all too arrogant to see it.

Noonan was hilarious, actually falling for his schtick. She must be one self-absorbed bitch. He made a fool of her. I laughed 'til I almost cried.

Neocon Bill Krystol (sp?) was on last nite, and he came off looking like an idiot as well.

If Colbert's putting more Dems in his "Get to Know a District" segment, it's probably to give them more exposure. Most of 'em handle it well and end up looking pretty good.
