Why are Democrats afraid to vote against funding of this illegal war ?
Even Democrats that are against the war will continue to vote for continued funding? Why is that? Are they afraid they will appear "weak" if they vote against "Bush's Folly"? But, isn't the opposite true? Won't they appear weak if they go along with something they know is wrong? Or do they really believe that we now have no choice. We broke it. We can't leave. We have to stay until the Iraqis can handle the matters themselves? How is the war ever going to end if no one is against it? Are they really anticipating victory?

1. They are afraid to vote against it because if they vote against it
and there is another terrorist attack in the U.S., the Republicans will blame the Democrats for encouraging the terrorists to attack here by failing to support the war in Iraq. Voting for the war in Iraq makes it more difficult for the Republicans to blame the Democrats if and when there is another terrorist attach in the U.S. Democrats are terrified of being blamed for encouraging terrorists or "causing" a terrorist attack. Of course that makes no sense because the war in Iraq has nothing to do with fighting terrorism, but the Republican propaganda maintains that the war in Iraq is being fought against the terrorists, so that is the public perception. It is a difficult perception to counter.

6. Also they are afraid that to vote against it will be defined as lack
of support for the troops.

3. Because the Piggies will spin it as 'those liberals hate our troops' ...
.. and the knuckle draggers will buy it, because almost none of the average American public reads the text of these bills, or watches CSPAN to know that the majority of the funding will actually go to Halliburtion, KBR, Carylye and other profiteers/contractors - not directly to the troops that really need and deserve our funding.

4. Sadly, you could use the opening words of your question....
"Why are Democrats afraid", and finish it up with just about anything anymore. Afraid of the word "liberal", for instance.

5. We shouldn't have gone in there
this will haunt the democratic party for years. The UN should have been in there.
