The ONLY "Retread" Candidate I Could Support Is John Edwards
Of those that have run for President before in either 2000 or 2004, he is the only one who is a true breath of fresh air; he's honest, he can talk straight talk to the American public and he has the "it" factor that not one of the other "retreads" has.

IOW, he stands a real shot at winning.

IMHO, we need an outsider and I would like to see a new crop of candidates from outside Washington DC.

But, if Edwards runs and wins the nomination, it's fine by me.

2. I'll support any democrat who wins the nomination...
but Edwards would be a serious contender in the primaries themselves.

4. I'm referring to the primaries
I'll support whomever in the general election.

But, in the primaries, it's either a fresh face or Edwards, in my book.

6. me too.
Edwards is my early favorite. My respect for him increases as time passes. He is the only politician I know of who's focusing on the poor.

10. Actually, he's not a genuine "Retread" he didn't run for President
I know that's splitting hairs; but John Edwards has so much to offer, and he works tirelessy for the benefit of others. He and Elizabeth and their fine family would really grace the Whitehouse. :loveya:

13. Well, Out of all the candidates who are re-threads
Wes Clark is the only candidate that I would support!

Should I start my own thread on tbat overarching and very important point?

Thank God for 2006! :eyes:

15. I like Clark and I think Edwards would be good choice for VP. Only
the President is C in C, and has the clout for the international stage, both areas where Clark is better qualified. Edwards has the practical experience in politics, is even more likeable than Clark and could ensure that the job at home gets done, which strengthens Clark's ability to repair the messes over-seas, which builds more capital for Edwards to use in DC, which...
These two in a cooperative relationship would be formidable, IMO.

14. At this point I'll support the candidate who demonstrates conclusively
Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 11:40 PM by ocelot
that he/she actually owns a spine; and so far I have been grievously disappointed by all of the current Senators except for Feingold. Right now the potential candidates I know for sure are not lily-livered chickenshits are Feingold and Clark (and maybe the new, improved Al Gore). Edwards is a very good speaker and did as well as he could under the circumstances as a VP candidate (although the Kerry campaign did a terrible job of keeping him in the spotlight), but voting for the IWR was not such a good thing. Still, I'd take him over H. Clinton, Biden, Bayh and the other equivocating, triangulating sellouts in the Senate.

16. I feel the same way
Edwards was my top choice for 2004 beginning a couple of years earlier. I just wish the difference between an open election and ousting an incumbent were more readily understood, or we would have nominated Edwards instead of Kerry. You knock out an incumbent with charisma and positives, not a resume and criticism.

In 2008 I support Mark Warner due to the electoral college realities. Edwards doesn't sway a vital state but Warner potentially does with Virginia and its 13 votes. That annex suddenly turns the margin for error abruptly in our favor for a change, eliminating Ohio or Florida as a necessity and requiring only one of Iowa, New Mexico, Nevada or Colorado, as long as we held the Kerry states as well. You can't underestimate how significant that is.

I could also support Gore in 2008 but the old problems are still there. I post on one sports website with an active political forum mostly occupied by righties and middle roaders. When Gore's name comes up, which is often, the old bugaboos like inventing the internet or Love Story or trying to "steal" the election routinely pop up.
