"Abortion is not the only issue" said prochoice Republican
woman (my sister in law) back when I warned her about voting Republican. And this was before she had two granddaughters!

Now what do I say to her? She can't be viewing any of this antichoice feeding frenzy with equanimity.

But it wasn't the only issue, was it, back in 2000 and 2004? Now, not only does she have 2 daughters (both strong dems), but the next generation down of granddaughters, who will be made to suffer for her vote!

Suggestions on what to say?

4. Big, intrusive government is the current Republican party...
Intrusive foreign policy and nation building in Iraq.
Biggest deficits.
W never vetoed a single bill.
Billions in tax dollars for NEW federal agency of Homeland Security couldn't even react to a PREDICTED attack on an American city.
Pork spending and corruption permeate the Republican party.
Cronyism.
Outsourcing US ports.
Schiavo.
Domestic spying.
Pro-rapist legislation.

THIS IS THE CURRENT REPUBLICAN PARTY.

6. Send her Bartlett's Book
How George W. Bush bankrupted America and betrayed the Regan Legacy by Bruce Bartlett

Chapter 2: The End of Serious Policy Analysis, page 20

"One of the hallmarks of George W. Bush's approach to policy that is disturbing both to
friends and foes alike is an apparent disdain for serious thought and research to develop
his policy initiatives. Often they seem born from a kind of immaculate conception, with
no mother or father to claim parentage. As a consequence, Bush's policy initiatives are
frequently underdeveloped, leading to both substantive and political mistakes that could have been avoided, hurting his policies and political fortunes at the same time."

7. I would just turn it back around on her
Sure, Abortion is not the only issue - so what other issues qualified a Republican vote? I honestly cannot think of one issue that the Republicans can campaign on based on their past performance.

Lower taxes - no only trickle down tax effect (higher local taxes, fees, increased debt)
Smaller Govt - nope
Fiscal responsibility - ha ha ha
Strong on Defense - not very competent there.

really - just ask her to define her issues and point out how the Republicans are successful.....

8. Actually, abortion WAS the only issue
but for the Republicans! This has been their single purpose since Roe was handed down. This is what they worked for day and night and now look what we've got. So, if you are against a party for which abortion is the only issue, look no further than your own Republican party! You know I'm right.
