I heard about it for the first time today. It sounds like TIA on steroids and it's apparently underway.
I called all the usual suspects (Warner, Allen, Goode, Pelosi, Davis, Reid, Hastert, etc) and told their folks that I was stunned - in light of the fact Congress SHUT DOWN TIA years ago - that while hearings on illegal warrantless wiretappings were ongoing in the Senate I would open my paper to read about a massive govt data mining program called ADVISE. When does congress plan to get back into their ordained OVERSIGHT capability and protect our civil liberties?!?
Then I wandered off into saying how horrified I was to see that the House had put Tom DeLay - himself under indictment in criminal court proceedings and three times loser in House ethics battles - put HIM on the house APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE. What (I asked) were they thinking? Let's PROVE to the American public that we are the party of the most corrupt? Couldn't you at least have PRETENDED to do something about your culture of corruption and cronyism? Put lipstick on the pig, as it were?
And finally I asked all my repukes which they held most dear - party solidarity or America.
:grr:
and I managed to remain very polite, sweet, and soft spoken with a lilting drawl whilst doing it. Used almost 60 cell phone minutes in the process too...
