Madness Of King George, the founders speak from the beyond...
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/01/27/opinion/main1245507.shtml
'The Founding Fathers anticipated debates such as the one stemming from George W. Bush’s illegal spying. Well acquainted with the excesses of mad monarchs named George and the excuses for tyranny peddled by their partisans, Benjamin Franklin warned, “They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” James Madison understood how seductive the claims of national security could be, pointing out that wartime is “the true nurse of executive aggrandizement.”'

there's nothing new under the sun, especially a wannabe boy-king-tyrant like g.w. bush

1. Those that do not learn from history...
In many ways, that's the saddest thing about the past years. It's not that it's all new, but, rather, that it's not. Some very bright and very courageous men, 200+ years ago, realized the temptations of power. They recognized that what they were committing their "lives, fortunes and sacred honor" to was a delicate concept, easily toppled.

We have been, as a nation, disrepectful of the gift of this country's ancestors. I hope, desperately, that we do not squander that legacy and diminish, to meaninglessness, that gift.
