WP: CNN Picks Up Bennett After Novak Departs
Plus Watts, and Beck? Did it take three wingnuts to replace Novak???

CNN Picks Up Bennett After Novak Departs
Thursday, January 26, 2006; Page C07

A month after losing conservative pundit Robert Novak to Fox News Channel, CNN has signed conservative William Bennett, who just ended a one-year deal with Fox News.

Bennett, a radio talk-show host and the author of the best-selling "The Book of Virtues" and "The Children's Book of Virtues," will contribute to the multi-hour afternoon show "The Situation Room" and other CNN shows.

In competing with top-rated Fox News, CNN hopes Bennett will appeal to conservative viewers. "We look forward to his candid and expressive contribution to our broadcasts," CNN President Jonathan Klein said in a statement.

Last week, CNN announced that it had reached a deal with former Republican congressman J.C. Watts Jr., now a GOP strategist, to provide political commentary. And CNN Headline News has signed conservative radio host Glenn Beck to anchor a new talk show.

Bennett, a former education secretary and drug czar in the Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations, created controversy last year when he said on his radio show that aborting "every black baby in this country" would reduce crime. He later defended his statement, saying he was making a hypothetical argument and was not stating his position....

2. I have known about this for a while
WAPO must have had a thin paper today to call this turd news. In fact, if I remember, there was a thread on this here and some of the comments about Bill's habits of gluttony, sloth and avarice were pretty damn amusing!

3. Help Wanted
We have an opening for a high-level hypocrite. Experience in bald-faced lying, doublespeak, and a highly developed sense of self-righteousness a plus.

9. Don't forget the gambling habit.
You've got to read this article, "The Bookie of Virtue." :wow:

Apparently Bennett has lost hundreds of thousands of dollars at a time. I wonder where the bastard stands on the bankruptcy "reform" legislation that put the screws on all the people who ran up medical bills, got divorced or deserted, or lost their jobs?

10. Playing the slot machines is not counted as gambling. It is a badge
of idiocy of the highest order. Much like jacking off a dead man!

How come most all slots players are quick to tell ya how much they won, but never report what they lose?

17. Over all I am way ahead.
I budget a certain amount to gamble with (only go to vegas a few times a year). We get free rooms & food and we do not drink.. If I win big, early on, I repay myself and play on their money..

I have lost occasionally when I got stupid, but so far I have won way more than I have lost:)

20.  I'm a meanie? I was referring to Bill Bennett as a degenerate
and stupid slot player and a rank sucker. Because he doesn't know how to jerk those machines as smartly and energetic as you.

You are a rare exception if you're keeping ahead of the one arm bandit.

23. For a while i got sucked into the dollar slots after I won $1600.00
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 06:46 PM by SoCalDem
and then a few weeks later I won over $3000.00 ....It wasn;t long before my "streak" ended, and I switched to the really gimmicky penny slots that you can stop the wheels yourslef.. I have managed to get a 'rythym' going on some of them and win win win..

I played a funky little cartoon-shrimp penny slot and cashed out $955.00... then walked over to a fishing one with a bonus on it.. after 3 or for spins i hit the bonus and played that one out for $790.00..(It went automatic on me and played by ityself for a half hour..there were people lined up watching it)..

then I wnet to another goofy phantom of the opera penny slot and cashed out for $500 on it..

Then I wnet upstairs and left the cash out tickets on the bathroom counter for my husband to see in the morning.. i was awakedn to him saying "HOLY SHIT!"

I read that article. It was/is awesome, and really says it all.

But there doesn't seem to be any disqualifying behavior for these guys. They love their felons and their degenerates.

16. There was an embarrassing exchange between Bennett & Wolf
Wolfie felt he had to clear up that little "misunderstanding" when Bennett spoke of aborting all black babies. Bennett obliged and explained again how he was merely using the issue to point out how outrageous it was. Whew! Now that's cleared up once and for all for doubtful CNN vieweers and he'll never have to go there again.

Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 05:40 PM by Placebo
And I suppose CNN's definition of "fair and balanced" would give that POV a seat at the table but now, say, the radical Green Party? Or Libertarian?

Right.

Nice to know that American Fascism and Racism inches forward a little bit more each day.

22. Slurp slurp slurp!
Mr. Great Books and Drug Gulags is back, eh? Well: so what?

Cable news is a pacifier for infantile America to suck on in between credit card purchases. Whether it's a Bennet or a Novak or an O'Reilly or a Tucker or any interchangeable Right Wing Motherfucker, those who watch such stuff will lap it up; the network ought to provide bibs.
