From Bernie Sanders campaign: THE ONSLAUGHT OF REPUBLICAN MONEY HAS BEGUN
E-mail from the Sanders Vermont Senatorial campaign, FYI:

THE ONSLAUGHT OF REPUBLICAN MONEY HAS BEGUN
Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Rich Tarrant Starts TV Ad Blitz

We knew it was coming. It was just a matter of when. Well, that "when" is now. And we need you and your friends to support Bernie in responding today.

At a morning press conference, multimillionaire Rich Tarrant, who has already given almost $1 million to his campaign, announced that he will begin an unprecedented early TV advertising campaign.

Bernie needs your help!

With his personal wealth in the $200-300 million range, Rich Tarrant will no doubt become a familiar face on the television sets of Vermont voters.

We cannot merely stand by while Rich Tarrant buys the airwaves.

That means we will have to join the TV ad wars, in order to set the record straight, far earlier than we would like.

I have no doubt we will be outspent but we must have a real presence on TV if we are going to prevent Vermont's U.S. senate seat from falling into the hands of the Republicans.

We need your help today!!! www.bernie.org/contribute

Television in Vermont is inexpensive by national standards so your donation will really make a difference. Please forward this email to your family and friends who want to help defeat the Republican majority in the U.S. Senate.

And please make an online contribution so we can combat the Rich Tarrant money machine.

Let's have a campaign for the people of Vermont that will discuss the issues. We want Vermont to show the nation how we can run a campaign that encourages democracy and rejects the influence of big money.

That's why we're running a grass roots centered campaign that will focus on neighbors talking to neighbors about the important issues.

Please consider making a contribution right now, we need your help to stop Richard Tarrant before he tries to buy this Senate seat.

www.bernie.org/contribute

As you may know, we have started a blog about this campaign and for the progressive community to communicate, please join the discussion at www.progressiveamerica.us. We hope that you will become a part of this community and invite your friends to join.

Again, thank you for being involved with this Senate campaign--a real chance to elect a true progressive to the United States Senate.

2. Time for those that can to give what they can. And if you have
access to Thom Hartmann, Brunch w/Bernie on Fridays. It's a treat.

4. I've given
I'll give more, but realistically Tarrant has a very uphill battle here, no matter how much money he spends. In fact, in many ways, his wealth works against him

6. You're exactly right. Bernie is a beloved figure in Vermont.
I'll give, too, but I honestly think the Republicans could drop a fortune in this race and not have a chance at the seat.

10. Perhaps, but Bernie needs to maintain a media presence and get out vote.
Let's hope Bernie "cleans his clock" as Lindsay Graham said when he threatened the Democrats who would support a filibuster against the "eager lieutenant for Bush" Samuel Alito.

7. Bernie ought to say Vermonters are too smart to have their votes bought
and they will not be influenced by slick campaign ads. Time to stop the ad wars that drive up the cost of campaigns and make our Congressmen too beholden to lobbyists, who can actually serve as their campaign treasurers!

Go, Bernie! I have donated before, and will donate now.
