PRESENTING THE 2006 ROCKNATION/LBN “You Call This NEWS?” AWARDS!

As much as I’d like to post this in the Late Breaking News section, it’s not, um, late-breaking news…Anyway, welcome to the third annual Rocknation/LBN “You Call This NEWS?” Awards ceremony.

HISTORY AND CRITERIA: Since joining DU in late 2001 (as a result of trying to find Democrats.com and ending up here by mistake), I’ve noticed that certain stories in the Late Breaking News section--though eligible to be there by DU’s criteria--had a striking redundancy to them. Further investigation revealed that this was due to either the headline being too obvious to defined as newsworthy; the story having been discovered, dissected, and disposed of by DU-ers months earlier, or both. I began replying to such LBN posts by asking, “You call this NEWS?” Now the time has come to do an advanced search with that as keywords to find out which story did the best job of catching the mainstream media totally flatfooted!

DISCLAIMER: These awards are NOT a negative reflection upon the DU-er who posted the LBN. Quite the opposite—without the intestinal fortitude they exhibit by boldly going forth into the media mainstream to dredge up the contestants, neither DU nor these awards would be possible. 5. gosh, I really don't know what to say, maybe I should thank all

those that made this nomination possible. I guess I should start by saying that the first thanks go to DU and those wonderful guys at the very top, earlg, elad and Skinner - who, undoubtedly are the best thing that has hit Al Gore's internets - and then I should say that the MSM should always be as sharp a bowling ball that they have proven themselves to be, for oh... at least since 1996 (when the Fairness Doctrine went away), and then I would have to give thanks for all those great DUers who have so rarely ever let me down by reading all the news that is fit to post in the virtual world and then some!

With that, I shall take my bow, give the last thanks to rocknation for this wonderful Second Runner-up Award and go my way.
