Would anybody be shocked.....
Would you be shocked if, when it is discovered who Bush was spying on and listening in to, it turns out it was Dems and other politicos he felt threatened him, and not terrorists at all? There is some reason he refused to go to a court and this is it, IMO. Unfortunately no one in the press will investigate or even propose this as the true scenario.

5. Honesty.
I think that's why they aren't backing away. They know if they back down that the subject of "who" is going to come up. By trying to bluster their way through, though, they might just get to keep that secret - and get themselves some spiffy new powers to abuse.

8. I've wondered, that, too. It would make the crime impeachable if he did
Violating a few laws for national security wouldn't be impeachable, but using the power of the presidency for personal political gain is exactly what they were going to impeach Nixon for.

I think there's something more going on. Bush claims there were 30 wiretaps, and that national security was at stake. But getting a warrant wouldn't have compromised security or taken much time for only 30 warrants. WHy would the president himself be approving something that simple and basic? There's something else to this. That's what the Dems sense, too, and that's why they want an investigation.

15. STOP repeating 30 wiretaps - he had to reauthorize this every 45 days
so he signed the Executive priveledge authorization 30 times during this period.

It's a RW meme that it only happened 30 times - without more info, we don't know that. It could have happened 100,000's of times - something big enough for 12 people to blow the whistle.

9. Actually, there is historical precident for this
with Nixon's enemies list, and the FBI going after M.L. King. I thought that was one reason some laws were passed after Watergate to KEEP this from happening again.

24. This was explained already
Someone on here, who is an attorney, already explained this. The reason Bush wasn't willing to go to the court to get the warrants is that the warrants require someone specific to listen in on! Bush spied on EVERYONE, across the board. You can't get a warrant to spy on everyone, or anyone. That's why he said that the authorized it as a method to "DETECT" not "MONITOR"!

This is an important point. Please pass it on!

27. It's as if you think * is running things
It's a big, corrupt Republican Party that thinks they are an elite class above the law, fending only for those who they feel deserving of access and power - i.e. not those scummy poor people or hourly wage earners or the "brown ones".

31. I'm sure someone in Bush campaign actually did spy on Kerry campaign
You know they did. Absolute power and drunken lust to destroy Kerry with the full blown corruption within the Bush campaign to spy on the "enemy" and use the Patriot Act as an excuse is EXACTLY the kind of dirty Nixonian politics that these guys would do. Hell, half of the sons of bitches worked for Nixon.

Investigations are in due order immediately.

We already know the FBI monitors anti-war groups. Plus, as easy as it was for them to get the warrants they needed, why didn't they? And we all know they don't give a shit about protecting us from terrorists. Never have, never will.
