Here is what I want:
1) A full, bi-partisan or non-partisan investigation and public airing of the facts about the so-called "bad intelligence" on Iraq and why it was "bad." I want to know who was responsible for collecting, preparing and disseminating the so-called "bad intelligence." I want to know whether the Bush administration requested honest intelligence or simply asked for information that would support its plan to invade Iraq.
2) I want to see Bush fire every single person in his administration and in the intelligence community who was in any way responsible for the "errors" that led to the terrible mistake of going into Iraq. I want to see Bush have the honesty and integrity to resign himself if he was responsible in any way for these terrible "errors."
3) I want the Bush administration to admit that the repercussions of the Iraq war have included loss of respect around the world, the growth of anti-American sentiment in many parts of the world and the strengthening of movements and leaders in the world who oppose the values of the United States. Castro, for one, has never had this much open support since the 1970s. The United States is paying a huge price that will become even greater in the future due to the "mistake" of entering Iraq.
4) I fear that, when all is said and done, the U.S. will have to pay huge reparations to the innocent people of Iraq who have lost family members due to Bush's "mistakes" in Iraq and reliance on "faulty intelligence." I want him to come clean about this too.
5) I want Congress to increase its oversight of the administration's use of military force around the world. Only Congress can declare war under the Constitution. Congress needs to clarify what language it must use to carry out its Constitutional responsibility of declaring war. It also needs to bring the criteria for sending American troops into a foreign country into harmony with international law.
6) I want Congress to have the right to subpoena the intelligence documents on which the President relies in using military force. No president should be able to hide from Congress the intelligence on which it is relying when it asks Congress for authorization to use force. Congress must declare war and decide when to use force against a foreign country, not the president. Therefore, Congress needs all the information available before considering whether to use force in that way.
7) No wiretapping outside of FISA. FISA is bad enough. Individuals should have the right to request information regarding wiretaps on them. Congress should pass a Constitutional amendment ensuring Americans' privacy rights in language that applies to the reality of today. I'm sick of being viewed by surveillance cameras, wiretapped, having e-mails read, etc. Americans' right to privacy needs to be increased, not lessened.
On edit: No idea why this is posted as a poll. Lack of sophistication about computers on my part, I guess.
