Protests force columnist Coulter to stop speech
‘I love to engage in repartee with people who are stupider than I am’

Updated: 8:27 a.m. ET Dec. 8, 2005

STORRS, Conn. - Conservative columnist Ann Coulter cut short a speech at the University of Connecticut amid boos and jeers, and decided to hold a question-and-answer session instead.

“I love to engage in repartee with people who are stupider than I am,” Coulter told the crowd of 2,600 Wednesday.

Before cutting off her speech after about 15 minutes, Coulter called Bill Clinton an “executive buffoon” who won the presidency only because Ross Perot took 19 percent of the vote.

Coulter’s appearance prompted protests from several student groups. About 100 people rallied outside the auditorium where she spoke, saying she spread a message of intolerance.

2. I suspect her 15 minutes are up.
Granted, there is a market for what Coulter produces. But years on the right-wing gravy train don't necessarily translate into much of anything in the long run.

Perhaps the Murtha speech and Schmidt's behavior pushed things over the edge. Or maybe the students are just especially determined.

Coulter reminds me of the Australian observation that "Some blokes aren't worth feeding."

5. The only way (s)he can stay in the spotlight
is to continually become more outrageous, and (s)he has gone so far as to become a caricature of (him)herself. His(her) schtick is beginning to reek of desperation and I suspect an on-air meltdown and/or a trip to Betty Ford clinic is in the near future.
