Sen. John Warner lied on Hardball tonight ...
Edited on Wed Nov-30-05 08:35 PM by jenmito
He said at the end of his interview that the bipartisan vote for some kind of accountability passed with 78 votes while the MURTHA bill was defeated with over 400 "no" votes. Matthews didn't question him. We all know that was NOT the Murtha bill but the HUNTER bill!

4. Warner is kind of a senile old guy.
We are not.

I don't expect much of CM - and he doesn't deserve much respect.

Murtha is a great man, nothing anyone can say diminishes that. More - the pentagon listens to him, respects him.

I so doubt B*sh gets the same respect.

Hunter is an idiot. He lives in California, though - and even in Orange County - he HAS A PROBLEM.

If the guy wants to keep his job, and I am sure he does, even this bastard has to give.

I hope he doesn't. Best we have a clean break with the assholes that put us in this position - but if he doesn't, maybe even Orange county turns blue.

Either way,

Best to you jenmito -

5. I'm totally unimpressed with Warner. Too old- his mindset is 20th Century

I had never really paid much attention to him till I started hearing he might run for president. I'd vote for him over Mc Cain but IMO he is too old. One thing about Clinton was that he was a really forward thinking president Warner just seems old establishment crooked to me.

6. Different Warner.
I actually like John Warner. Far from the brightest guy in the senate, he's very honest, 'plays well with others' and always dresses well.

25. Are you thinking of the right Warner when refering to a run for the presid
ency? Mark Warner is the governor of VA who is running for president. John Warner is a senile old fart.

7. Right
I watched part of that and one guy tried to make it seem like it was Murtha's bill but it wasn't and a democratic guy had to ask what they were voting on and made the other guy retract what he said. This is why they were doing this.

A real journalist, one really interested in the truth, one really playing "hardball" would have called him on it, immediately.

17. He must be making the rounds
I caught him on Meet the Press this past Sunday...where he suggested the fireside chat thing.

At this point:

MR. RUSSERT: ...being used for nuclear weapon development. The State Department was very, very clear about that; the Bureau of Intelligence and Research, the Department of Energy. And in the National Intelligence Estimate there was a caveat which said, "We don't believe these tubes could be used for anything like that." Do you believe, in all honesty, that the administration took the very best spin on intelligence they could get in order to help buttress or support the case for war?

SEN. WARNER: You know, I've known the president quite well. I knew his father well. I actually knew his grandfather, met him. You remember, he served on the...

SEN. BIDEN: I only know the father and the...

SEN. WARNER: Well, anyway, the grandfather served on the Armed Services Committee as a senator. That's a family that's been known for its integrity and public service for generations. Our president would not intentionally take any facts and try and mislead the American public, in my judgment. What was before all leaders of the world at that time were facts that gave rise to the--Saddam Hussein having weapons of mass destruction and some potential for nuclear weapons. When we went in, in '91, we underestimated how far he had proceeded in his programs. Now, we recognize he didn't have them but he certainly had the infrastructure to which he was going to direct moneys, if he ever got it, to go back into the business of weapons of mass destruction, had not this invasion taken place.

...I laughed out loud and promptly turned it off.

Warner vouching for the integrity and honesty of the Bushes is quite amusing, in and of itself.

But, as I listened to how Warner spins his answer, what stands out is how these people keep perpetuating this notion that an invasion was appropriate based on Saddam wanting to enhance his weapons capabilities. What evil dictator doesn't want this?

Contrary to what Warner claims, other reports show that after the Gulf War and more than ten years of sanctions and IAEA oversight likely did lead to the loss of much of Iraq's physical weaponry infrastructure.

Saddam's interest in acquiring or developing nuclear weapons may not have diminished, but, was he an immediate threat, with ties to Al Qaeda and 9/11? Was a pre-emptive attack the best solution, or would more strict and serious weapons inspections, coupled with pressure from threat of war have been the better solution?

I'm beginning to think Warner and the whole lot of them are senile, IMO. They think we're fools. Double GGrrr!

22. Wasn't Warner a Democrat at one time?
Wasn't he one of the first turncoats, before it got really popular with Southern politicians? Virginia does have a shitty duo in the Senate: Warner, and that football coach's son, what's his name? Oh yeah .. George. George Allen, just like his daddy ...

Senator Warner is a decent man, I am sure. Out of it totally, but a decent man none the less.
