Fitzgerald sees new grand jury proceedings
By Adam Entous
"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In a sign he may seek new or revised charges in the CIA leak case, special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald said on Friday his investigation would be going back before a grand jury.

It was the first time Fitzgerald said he would be presenting information to a grand jury since the indictment three weeks ago against Vice President Dick Cheney aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

The investigation into who leaked the identity of a CIA operative, which has reached into the highest levels of the White House, could be moving into a new phase that could lead to charges against other top administration officials.

Lawyers in the case have said President George W. Bush's top political adviser, Karl Rove, remained under investigation and could still be charged..."

2. Pentagon not denying Rumsfeld as Woodward source
"...Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman would not answer directly whether Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was Woodward's source.

White House national security adviser Stephen Hadley, in Pusan, South Korea, where Bush was attending an Asia-Pacific summit, left it to aides to put out the word that he was not the source.

Neither was Cheney nor Bush, according to current and former officials and their lawyers, none of whom would agree to be identified.

Plame's husband has called for an inquiry by The Washington Post into the conduct of Woodward, who criticized the CIA leak investigation without disclosing his own involvement..."

3. Fitzgerald is the Energizer Bunny of federal prosecutors!
Edited on Fri Nov-18-05 03:37 PM by Divernan
He'll keep pursuing the Bush crooks for years! Also reminds me of Inspector Javert - with Rumsfeld, Cheney, Perle, Wolfovitz & the Chimp as Les Miserables. All those neocons can spin, but they can't hide.

Don't forget Fitzgerald took 3 years and over 50 indictments before he finally worked his way up the foodchain to nail Illinois Republican Governor George Ryan.

6. And we need it dragged out
Impatience is not our friend. Keeps the foreboding clouds in view but at a distance, and uncertainty rampant. Still a year until the midterms. One year ago Terrell Owens was a hero and the Eagles had one loss.

4. More from NewsHounds: Was Bob Woodward a Target in the Leak Conspiracy?
"Was Bob Woodward a Target in the Leak Conspiracy?
Disclaimer: This is an editorial, meant to incite discussion on the recent revelation of celebrated journalist, Bob Woodward's, role in Traitorgate.

The news of Bob Woodward's involvement in the CIA leak scandal has been splashed across the front pages of newspapers across the country this week. This latest development has led to violent speculation from both sides on whether or not this revelation exonerates Scooter Libby. What no one has delved into however, is WHY Bob Woodward was apparently the first journalist given the information about Plame, and why exactly he "hunkered down", and attempted to downplay the importance of the investigation for the past two years.

Let's look at the first question: Why was Bob Woodward the first journalist to be given the information about Valerie Plame? The answer is glaringly simple: Karl Rove.

Karl Rove, king of retribution, has one hero that he has modeled his entire career around: Richard Nixon. He fell in love with Nixon at 9 years old, and "lost his first political battle" to a young neighbor girl that who's family were Kennedy supporters. At the height of the Watergate scandal, which were incited by award-winning investigative reporting done, in-part, by one Bob Woodward, Rove was devastated as he watched his hero disgraced and subsequently forced to resign the Presidency..."

7. Would this be a new grand jury - or just new proceedings
before another already sitting grand jury which may have originally been called for something else?
