DID NOT DIE IN VAIN. That's bush plan and it is supported by chicken hawks from coast to coast. Rep Murtha says enough is enough and he is ridiculed; labeled a coward and a "liberal" (break my fucking heart calling him a liberal.) I'm thoroughly baffled when people question why I am a flamethrowing liberal and yet I served in the military.

1. I think says a lot when you count the # of liberal vets here!
How can so many of us "lifers" be liberals? Could it be the actual experience changes one's outlook? Maybe meeting all those people in other lands and finding out they are just like us (but usually much poorer) or perhaps it is just being closer to the cutting edge of military force?

6. I think (I know) we have a greater respect for the Constitution
and what it provides. That's why I get incensed when conservatives want to pass laws taking constitutional liberties away from citizens because they hate them. DO NOT fuck with my constitution. And do not support policies which will ruin our military which provides protection of that constitution. We are in iraq because of the politics of the republican party. Our kids are dying because of the politics of the republican party. I will never vote for a republican for any office. Please anyone lurking out there want to set me straight?

Good on ya Shipmate!

2. Whendafuck do the twins go fight to honor the dead
and keep their sacrifice from having been made in vain?

Oh, that's right, they went shopping & partying with some of the money the family made off the little enterprise. See, sacrifice not in vain. Lots of rich kids benefit!

Waiter! Two more tequillas for Jenna's table. And bring more limes.

4. Interesting
because if Rep Murtha doesn't get his way our Army will grind to a halt in the next three years. Chickenhawks don't know what the fuck anti-military is. Supporting policies that destroy it certainly isn't pro military.

5. Satire about pro-war attitude: "Support Our Troops by getting them killed"
I got death-threats from pro-war Republicans when this was first published:

Support Our Troops by getting them killed.

As most Republicans know, the reason we need to stay in Iraq is to prevent the spread of WMDs defend the oil from the terrorists who are trying to squash Democracy in the Middle East. Osama Bin Ladin is a sneaky mastermind who is rallying his minions as we speak; We must defeat him in Iraq before he has an opportunity to attack America again! <snip>

I have been thinking long and hard on what would be the best way to support our troops in this time of unending warfare. In previous conflicts, the citizenry was called upon to make personal sacrifices for the war-effort. Raw materials such as rubber and oil were rationed, neighborhoods grew "Victory Gardens" and people invested in War Bonds.

While such measures today would show the troops that we do indeed feel the Iraqi War is worth fighting, and dieing, for; I have a better idea: The best way to "Support the Troops" is to keep them in Iraq so they can get killed.

8. that's always the final excuse

in a war that looks lost. It's a tautology born of denial.

The reply to it is: what did the people who died first die for, and what will the last people to die in this conflict die for?

10. I have the same philosophy when I'm playing poker
"Sure, I've taken a bath here. The cards are running against me, and every other player seems to be reading me like a comic book, so that even when I get a good hand, I don't do very well. But you know, even though I've lost fifty bucks, I would dishonor that lost money by not spending every last nickel in my pocket, so I will buy another stack, dealer."

And as strange as it is, I'm sure, for you all to hear it, it's even stranger for me to say that I wind up losing all my money following this sterling strategy!

11. Ya gotta admit, though, the same phrase kept us in 'Nam for
at least five years longer. And it allowed the military to needlessly kill ten thousand or more soldiers.

Its a useful phrase for warmongers who don't want to admit they have been defeated. Also, it allows them years later to complain, after the humiliating withdrawl, that if the 'peaceniks' had just let them keep fighting for just a feeeeeew more decades, well, by golly, they would have won!!

Hate those pricks

12. I'm not sure how the right wing comes to the conclusion that all
who serve their country are conservative Republicans. Can't they see how many Democrats in the House and Senate have served in the military (and how many Republicans have not)? Even people who do not support Bush's war in Iraq support the troops and realize that we need a strong military to keep the peace and for defense. They have tried to co-opt the military, as well as religion, for their own purposes.
