2006: Rove's Waterloo
For the time being, we must assume that Rove will not be indicted. We cannot assume that the Bush White House will work without its head and brain. Rove, for better or worse, is up to his old tricks again. According to a post on Daily Kos:
http://armando.dailykos.com/story/2005/11/16/211410/86
Rove is apparently back to his old tricks. He is now going to directly attack People for the American Way instead of trying to defend Alito directly. The people behind the group attacking People for the American Way are funded by the same people as the Swift Boat Veterans. This is an exact replay of the Social Security battle when a GOP group called USA Next launched an attack on the AARP to desperately connect them with gay marriage and "not supporting the troops."
Karl Rove is this era's version of Napoleon Bonaparte, judging his hi cunning abilities and ambition. Like Napoleon, Rove is an innovator in warfare, only in the political sense. Napoleon was able to aim his cannons more accurately than generals during World War I a hundred years later, while Rove is able to do the political work of what would normally require two or three people! And just like Napoleon had ambitions for French dominence of Europe, Rove has ambitions for Republican and tyrannical domination of America.
HOWEVER, Napoleon also had his faults. 2005, IMHO, is akin to the Battle of Trafalgar, where Britain defeated France and Spain in their attempt to pave the way for an invasion of Britain itself. This year, Rove had hoped to build a permanent GOP majority and to ram through proposals like Social Security privatization. In defeating him on the SS issue, and stopping him from using the Nuclear Option, we had our Trafalgar. Rove is not God! He cannot move the heavens around with the snap of a finger. If we want to beat him, we need to fight with a tough hand and brute force. We need to:

1. Have master strategists, swift responses to attacks, and cohearant talkingpoints for all of our surrogates. Reid setting up a war-room has helped us to an extent, but I still see our surrogates of tv letting themselves be run over due to a lack of a cohearant message. However, and maybe it's because of all the bad news, but in general I get the feeling that we are more confident in our appearances.

2. Use Rove's tricks against him. If he wants to run ads in states with vulnerable Democratic Senate seats and Congressional seats, then we need to do the same. Take on Santorum, DeWine, Kyl, Burns, Chafee, Talent. Hit them with Social Security, interfering in the Terri Schiavo case and how they are against medical privacy their extremist social conservatism, their ties to Abramoff and DeLay, and their support for torture. Also, work to pit the Fundamentalists against the Country Club Republicans. Run ads that are meant to depress turnout from the other faction that is slightly less represented by the Republican incumbent or candidate. Also, consider running ads against groups like Progress for America and the Committee for Justice. Emphasize the corrupt behind the people in these groups.

3. Contest everywhere. Do not have a single unopposed Republican Congressional District or Senate Seat. By allowing for Republicans to run without any challenger, you are allowing for Rove to reallocate money to more competitive race

4. Scorched-Earth policy. Do what General Sherman did in laying waste to Atlanta in his "March to the Sea": burn EVERYTHING down and leave no prisoners. Do everything you can to demoralize the GOP, even if it falls in the relam of dirty tricks. Question the mental capacity of the GOP candidate running. Question his resume. The party that swiftboats must be counter-swiftboated.
