2. Great! We had at least 70 or 80 in San Diego, almost all newcomers
to political activism.

One interesting stat: I learned that if just 10 people per precinct across America had been persuaded to shift their vote from Bush in '04, Kerry would be in the White House.

So go wear out some shoe leather, DUers, and walk those precincts!!!!

4. Well, we vote by mail, so it's different here in Oregon.
My husband heard this figure (10 people per precinct) and said, "It really won't matter if the machines are rigged, right?"

9. In
California, all of Arnolds proposals where voted down.
In Virginia, a state Bush won by 8%, Democrat Kaine won the governorship by 6%.
In New Jersey, Democrat Corzine won the governorship by 10%.

Yes, we need serious election reforms, but Democrats can still win elections.

16. I understand. The question is: We're living in a state that DOESN'T
appear to need election reform -- Oregon (at least, not that we know of). We can work for Democratic candidates here, but my husband asks: How does someone get involved in a NATIONAL Democratic effort -- without physically moving to another state or traveling there frequently?

I'm not debating that Democrats can't win elections. We do seem to be moving in the right direction, with the wins in CA, VA and NJ.

Thanks for your post.

3. My husband went to one in Oregon. He said he is "too angry" to want
to work for "local issues." He wanted to have some say in a state that is experiencing problems due to election fraud, not Oregon. What was presented was largely focused on school problems in another county.

6. DelCo PA had a few.
The one I went to was very, very cool. Several folks were holdovers from MoveOn activities, and not sure how to get involved with the local Democratic Party. We had a really sharp guy from the County party there, and he explained some of the inside baseball of the local situation.

I confess it was more worthwhile even than I expected. I guess I expected kind of a pep talk from Howard and then a bunch of kvetching in the group about not being able to get things done locally. But I think it was actually quite productive.

We had a one in Jacksonville Fl. It looked like about 30 people. Things are looking up in No. Fl., for 06.

11. I went to see Dean outside of Detroit last night...
and my take on the mission, should we choose to accept it....

is that we have to start wooing libertarians and soft repugs for the push in 06.
He's right, too. As a precinct delegate, and as a canvasser for several local races, all of my lists have been either strong dem addresses and numbers, or, in the case of MoveOn, swing voters.
I have literally walked past most puglican doors. Guess it's time to start gently confronting/educating these folks.

12. It seems like know is the time to
try to appeal to soft Republicans. Wasn't there a poll that indicated only 9% of voters would support Republican congressional that share the views of Bush?

I am in MI too. What there much talk about MI 06 races at the Dean rally?

13. I would LOVE to see that poll!
It would help me enormously if you can find it, Skipos. Andy Meisner spoke about 06 as a progressive rep who calls himself a "Dean Democrat" without reservation (and he really is)!
Nancy Skinner from 1310 was there to MC the thing, and she is also a huge Dean backer, so we will have help from the local lib radio station. Much reiteration about how lucky we are to live in such a Blue State!

14. Here ya go
http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/11/14/bush.poll/index.html

Towards the bottom...

"Only 9 percent said their first choice in next year's elections would be a Republican who supports Bush on almost every major issue."

15. OK, it was 2 nights ago...
I attended a Kickoff meeting in Bedford, NH.

Now, Bedford historically has been about the "reddest" spot on the planet. It's a wealthy bedroom community just southwest of Manchester. Think back to the Primary campaign; Bedford is the place where "Good Morning America" originates.

At any rate, on a cold, drizzly night, about 30 Democrats and Independents gathered at the Soederberg residence and shared ideas, occassional frustrations, and lots of fighting spirit. There were Deaniacs and Liebermaniacs, Democrats of every stripe, all committed to the cause of honest, progressive government.

Thirty people in Bedoford. That's cause for hope!
