Romney tones down gay marriage remarks as attorney general criticizes him
Romney tones down gay marriage remarks as attorney general criticizes him

By Glen Johnson, AP Political Writer | November 11, 2005

BOSTON --A day after he accused justices on the Supreme Judicial Court
of legalizing gay marriage to please "their like-minded friends in the
communities they socialize in," Gov. Mitt Romney on Friday sought to
portray his comment as a generic criticism of their legal approach.

The Republican chief executive said the four justices who authored the
2003 majority opinion were not so much reflecting the views of their
particular social circles, but of the community at-large. Instead, he
argued, they should have rooted their opinion not in public opinion,
but precedent and the four corners of the state constitution.

Mittens slimed his own state and his own electorate.
His clarification comes a day late and a dollar short.

I'm counting the days until 2006.

2. I think Romney needs a reality check.
It seemed to me like the did just about everything the could think of within the legal structure to NOT come down for gay marriage but the decided the state constitution (legal arguments) gave them no coice.

3. Maybe Massachusetts needs a constitutional amendment
banning people with the name of "Romney" from being married or holding public office.

4. Silly me...I thought the justices based their decision on the law.

Romney doesn't seem to realize that there are no legal reasons to deny gay and lesbian couples legal, equal marriages. He's another right wing asshole playing to the homophobic religious right.

Massachusetts DU'ers...please, if you can...get rid of this homophobic creep in 2006. Thank you.

5. He has absolutely no chance of remaining governor of MA
He has toured the country trashing this state for the last year, and the electorate is mightily pissed. Most people here don't think he'll run for reelection in 2006, 'cause he'd lose big-time.
