Voters choosing governors, mayors (MSNBC)
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9967720/

Here's a real gem from the report:

<<<Kaine’s Republican challenger, Jerry Kilgore, got a boost Monday from President Bush, who made a last-minute dash into Virginia to urge die-hard conservatives to help turn out voters for the former attorney general.
“The thing I like about this fellow is he grew up on a farm,” Bush said in a brief stop on his return from a South American trade mission. “He doesn’t have a lot of fancy airs.”>>>

Kilgore is a truly repugnant human being and has run an appalling campaign. I voted this morning, straight Democratic ticket all the way.

1. How does Bush showing up constitute 'a boost'?

7. I wish Bush had spent the last 2 weeks in Virginia, 'boosting' Kilgore.
Kaine would be a shoe-in now.

10. Many things...
...mainly unrelentingly negative ads as mentioned by another poster, i.e. saying that Kaine would not execute Hitler, painting Kaine as being pro-illegal immigrant, asking "what kind of man he (Kaine) is", being in favor of outlawing abortion in all cases (including rape or incest).
The other consistent criticism I've heard (and I also heard this from a Republican who voted for Kaine this morning) regarding Kilgore is that he has not put forward one single idea, issue, platform, etc. regarding what he would do as governor other than try to outlaw abortion if he was able to.

12. He grew up on farm - I presume that is meant to appeal to rural voters
Virginia doesn't exactly strike me as that rural, but I won't claim to know much about it.

13. Very rural...
...other than Northern Virginia area. Once you get about 1 hr south or west of Washington D.C., you're in "git 'er dun!" heaven.
