If Lauer asks a question, and Bush doesn't respond, it's not an interview
...it's Matt Lauer wanking.

MSNBC is running a promo (and they have been running clips) from the Matt Lauer Today show interview with Bush. Here's what the interview is:

1). A photo op to show Bush and Pickles with their sleeves rolled up, buildin' houses for all them great homeless folks with Habitat for Humanity.

2). An opportunity for Pickles to offer an unsolicited testimonial for Harriet Miers, hos she is a "role model for young girls," how she "broke through the glass ceiling," how she's a "wonderful person," etc. etc, etc.

3). An opportunity for Bush, when asked about Karl Rove, to say "I'm not going to comment on that."

IT'S NOT AN "INTERVIEW!"

:grr:

2. Does Lauer actually remove Chimpy's "banana" from his mouth long enough...
...to actually ask a question?

4. He asks him about Rove, point blank.
Bush says that Fitzgerald (referred to by Bush as "the prosecutor") has made it clear that he "doesn't want anyone discussing or speculating," so he's not going to do it. Lauer asks if Bush is "concerned" and Bush says "I'm not going to respond."

IT'S NOT AN INTERVIEW...it's a Bush photo op with Lauer in the starring role as "enabler."

5. I dunno, I thought Lauer asked some pretty tough questions and
kept asking them. What is he supposed to do? Hold the President Of The United States down with a nail gun to his head and force him to answer? All the reporter can do is ask, right?

I was actually surprised that Lauer asked some of the stuff he did and actually corrected Bush a couple of times and I think he even interrupted Bush when he launched into one of his patented talking points speeches.

7. Yes, that would have made good TV
"What is he supposed to do? Hold the President Of The United States down with a nail gun to his head and force him to answer?" you ask.

Sure, I say -- well, not literally, but at least the verbal equivalent. A verbal nail gun might at least have pinned * down.

8. I just have an issue with the Miers infomercial & photo op aspect.
Bush KNEW he'd be asked about Rove.

Bush KNEW he wouldn't answer.

Bush KNEW he wanted to have a "hands-on guy" photo op after the cake-sucking travesty that followed Katrina.

Bush KNEW that whenever he drags Pickles along he scores additional points (God only knows why).

I can't buy into the "All the reporter can do is ask" concept, with all due respect.

On one hand, you're absolutely correct.

On the other hand, HOW MANY George Bush interviews do we need to see in order to understand that they are about ONE thing, and one thing ONLY: feeding his "agenda?"

What INFORMATION did we get from Lauer's piece? Miers is wonderful and Bush cares about the homeless.

Good night, and good luck.

9. I agree that Bush just walks over anything he wants to ignore
Maybe I should have said, "I was impressed how much Lauer went after Bush given the way they have sucked up until this point." I have never heard The Today Show do anything REMOTELY anti-GWB until lately. Katie even ended her interview with Louis Freeh by saying that his book was thought by many people to be a work of fiction.

6. Lauer should have said:
"Then I'll infer that the answer is "yes". Now, Mr President..." and then go on with his next question.

10. I saw Jimmy Carter being interviewed at a Habitat site a few years ago
He taught the interviewer how to hammer a nail in two or three smacks of the hammer.

Today, after having someone start the nail for him, Buxh gingerly tapped the nail in with four or five sissy hits.

He looked like my grandmother hanging a picture, except he had to wear heavy gloves and a hardhat.

11. Did you see the way he choked up on the hammer??
Typical 'girl' hammering technique. I don't hammer that way, BTW, I am a woman.

Is that picture photoshopped? Please tell me it isn't...
