Bird flu vaccines: Aren't they based on evolution?
Does this mean that people who believe in a strict creationist view of the origins of the universe would not take any bird flu vaccine as it is, literally, against their religion?

How do people who believe in strict creationism justify their getting medical treatment that uses the theory of evolution as a ground floor belief? I know Rethugs are hyprcrites, but this seems a bit odd to me, given how so many of them pledge lives and fortunes on this.

1. They have faith, not reason
I could never understand why anti-choice people didn't condemn women who withheld their eggs from fertilization. I mean, that has the same effect as abortion, doesn't it? A potential life has not been born.

But that's too logical for them to follow. They go by the script and never veer.

2. exactly what husband and i were talking about today

the flu virus, amongst others, EVOLVES every year. all those dummies who doubt evolution should leave the vaccines for us to use.

5. Yeah, but for the viruses.
They are the ones that Bush is betting will mutate to a form able to be transmitted human to human.

I read the answer when our new DUer-friend, Cult, referred to a wonderful sight (tongue-in-cheek I am):

it said that things can evolve sideways or downwards, just not (uh-oh, I'm confused - hold on):

http://www.icr.org/

"Each of the major kinds of plants and animals was created functionally complete from the beginning and did not evolve from some other kind of organism. Changes in basic kinds since their first creation are limited to "horizontal" changes (variations) within the kinds, or "downward" changes (e.g., harmful mutations, extinctions)." (#3 of "What does ICR Mean by Scientific Creationism)

http://www.icr.org/index.php?module=home&action=faq .

(All joking aside, Hubby and I were having a good laugh over this one - fun started on this thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x4123258

of course, mutations are evolutionary - but that site sure is a laugh-and-a-half.)

9. Yes, but that's just microevolution.
Microevolution happens, just not macroevolution. After all, you don't see the viruses evolving into birds do you? (Creationist "reasoning".)

10. That makes sense.
These are people who do go to great lengths to dhere to their beliefs. So I was wondering how true believers can get vaccines if they detest the science behind the vaccines. This makes sense. They rationailzed it as the virus acting as it was 'designed divinely' to do. Thanks!

11. What about Satan?
Doesn't he have a hand in this?

(I'm joking about creationists - I would never joke about Christianity - most liberal Christians I know don't have any trouble with evolution; I'm joking about my nutty relatives, basically).

12. Most don't doubt microevolution.
Species changing a little bit here and there.
It's macroevolution--the creation of different species, of more complex species--that confuses idiots.

13. Evolution is just a theory
and you can walk the four corners of the earth and not find an example.
