DKos switches support from Hackett to Brown
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2005/10/6/12495/7492

So now we know that both Sherrod Brown and Paul Hackett plan on announcing their candidacy for Senate. DeWine is weak, the Ohio GOP is in shambles, and Democrats are salivating over taking this seat away.

...

But in this case, it might be a good idea for Hackett to stand down.

It pains me to say that. I think Hackett would be a far more exciting candidate -- Iraq War vet versus career politician. Outsider versus insider. New blood versus old timer. Straight talker versus the same ol'. And Hackett would offer a perspective not currently available in the Senate.

Hackett has proven that he can get votes in one of the most conservative corners of the state. The NRA would back him against DeWine (heck, against Brown, for that matter). And he's fearless.

End quote

Everyone seems to overlook the fact that, if Brown wins, his seat in Congress will switch from D to R (it was gerrymandered a couple of years ago).

Kos also isn't mentioning that, according to Democracy Guy, Kos's business partner Jerome Armstrong, has a job on Browns campaign.

What a mess. I can't help but think things would be better if more women were in charge of the Dem party.

1. That's really disappointing.
I would have hoped for more from Kos.

3. It is getting pretty scary.....
to try to figure who is working for whom. Jerome works for the VA team as well. People need to be aware that the new leftwing media is at work in many areas. I hear a site banned someone who posted an article critical of a candidate they work for. Trouble is the person was not aware.

Things are not always as they seem.

6. Wise words
thanks for the heads up.

I don't have a problem as much w/ Kos as I do with the overall chilling effect these kinds of challenges have on encouraging grassroots Dems to run for office. Its difficult enough as it is to recruit new candidates without treating them this way - particularly those who show a gift for campaigning and fundraising.

I'm also concerned about the loss of a Dem seat in Congress. Contrary to what some might think, Brown's district is very conservative and it will be hard for a new Dem to win.

7. Living right next to Hackett and having heard him speak .....
a couple of times, I don't understand why the great uproar over him.....unless you are a gun-loving, pug lite. Granted, I met him right at the beginning of the primary for the 2nd District...possibly before his 'handlers' got a hold of him and told him to shut up and listen. He's a Reagan Democrat.....which ain't my kind of man.

I am delighted to hear that Sherrod Brown is going to run.

Have Hackett run against Mean Jean again next year. I don't think he has the experience to be a Senator...2nd District member of Congress...that's OK.

Now we need someone to run against Chabot in the 1st District!!!!

10. Keep an eye on this group.....
This is the new NPI media started by Rosenberg. You can follow the links there. A lot of policy will come from there.

There is the Third Way group who are also pushing the National Security Democrats theme. I think that The New Republic and maybe Slate are allied with them. It is hard to find out all the media they use.

What bothers me is just not knowing how the ground lies, how things stand. When people start getting banned at a site for being critical of a candidate they did not know the owner was working for....then Houston, we got problems.

They're certainly off to a shaky start.

It looks as though corporate money has started to flow into Dem coffers in DC now that Republicans are getting into so much trouble.

It comes with a heavy price - weak and bad policy, top-down management, and, for Dems, a return to ignoring development of its grassroots base. They fall for it every time - the myth of winning elections through campaign commercials alone.
