Not too impressed with the CSPAN coverage so far.
I saw Gallaway's speech. That was great.

But, it looks like a little teany gathering from their camera angle right now. And, David Brooks on CSPAN 2? Give me a break.

2. She spoke an hour ago or so
and they said there ate about 3000,000 people there! Although you don't see them, they're there.

3. I Feel Like A Lot Of People Were Turned Off By The Speakers...
and were leaving -- I turned it off at home, I would have walked out on a couple of them. I don't like ANSWER and their whole attitude...

4. CSPAN coverage sucks
I have seen previous rallies covered with multiple cameras in multiple areas....this is a deliberate attempt to make this rally look small and fringe. I am angry, but frankly, not surprised. The media no longer belongs to anyone but their corporate masters.

They (the media) REALLY seem to want this situation to escalate. When people's loud and demanding voices are marginalized and ignored, protest turns into civil disobedience, and civil disobediance leads to direct action.

If there are 20 blocks worth of people, show it!!! Show them in their hundreds of thousands. This one-location fringe speech, no crowd coverage is an insult to the many thousands that came. CSPAN will hear from me.

6. Agreed. I think it's intention too.
They should be focusing on Cindy.

5. I had forgotten
how ragged and spastic so many rallies were back in the sixties. This never-ending show of egos (why is everyone a poet?) takes away from the subject of Iraq. I'm as gung-ho to bring home the troops, to get rid of this alleged administration, as the next kneejerk liberal, but this sort of all-over-the-place showboating does nothing for the cause.

C-Span has only fixed cameras, and what you need are overhead shots to get the crowd count, so they can't do it. That's a complicated space, where they've set up the stage.

I hope to hell it's HUGE.

7. There was a long shot from above on CSPAN 2...
...earlier. Before they went to Brooks schlepping his book. But it didn't show the huge crowds, it showed all the tents on the lawn and it looked like a po-dunky picnic.

So, I will believe Will Pitt when he says there are huge crowds but we aren't seeing them in our livingrooms.

Peace.

All they show is this one location. It's a friggin travesty.

I'm writing [email protected] and telling them so.

8. I understand fixed cameras

But in the past, they put at least one camera along the march route so each protestor could pass by it. They are only staying at one location.

We all know that DC is a no-fly zone, but that does NOT exonerate this crappy coverage.

BTW....preventing the camera from capturing any more than a tiny amount of the crowd allows the press to say what they want about numbers. Here is what the AP has right now.

By JENNIFER C. KERR

WASHINGTON (AP) - Opponents of the war in Iraq marched by the tens of thousands Saturday in a clamorous day of protest, song and remembrance of the dead, some showing surprisingly diverse political views even as they spoke with one loud voice in wanting U.S. troops home.

The surging crowd, shouting "Bush out now" and "Peace now," marched in front of the White House and then toward the Washington Monument in an 11-hour marathon of dissent.

They were young people with green hair, nuns whose anti-war activism dates to Vietnam, parents mourning their children in uniform lost in Iraq, and uncountable families motivated for the first time to protest

Better than CNN's "hundreds", but still...

12. I'm just a malcontent
Edited on Sat Sep-24-05 01:59 PM by Zodiak Ironfist
When the pro-war people get coverage on all news channels 24/7 and we can't get camera's in two locations, I cannot help but be a little irked. I am not going to take the sad daub of gruel the media gives us and say "thank you". The least I can say is "please, may I have another?" Another camera...another location...it's not a lot to ask.

I appreciate them being there, but they are not doing this rally justice.

13. CSpan is covering two major events in DC...
They just may not have the resources to do both...

The Book Fair is always a big event for them.....

Just sayin'

14. .
<blink>

They are on every cable network across the country, and they are short on cameras? They cannot take the two cameras they have at that one location (the rally) and move one to the actual march?

If a book fair occurred during the civil rights marches of the 60's, would we even know about it nowadays? Would there have been civil rights legislation?

just askin'
