All 7th graders REQUIRED to write letter to Bush!
Yesterday, my son came home and announced that the teachers made everyone in the entire 7th gr class of the Colonial Middle School in Montco. PA (~700 kids) write a letter to *co.

They would not tell the kids why they were to do this.

My son said that after about 30 seconds the kids all began to say "but, why do we have to...we don't even like him." As my son reports, they were told to "kiss up" to him and not write anything negative. One little girl (bless her heart) began railing about the DSM and the "illegal" war!! You go kid!

My son wrote about wanting to see more hybrid cars on the market and "no more war for oil".

This is considered to be a fairly 'red' district, too.

They should have the students ask the Prez a question. That way, they can be polite without "kissing up."

I remember writing a letter to Spiro Agnew that the teacher did not appreciate

I've heard assigning a letter to a celebrity is a good way to motivate kids to write, especially when they get a reply.

He requested the kiss-up letters and will be reading them aloud on TV so that people in PA will start to believe that PA loves *, and so he can ride *'s coat-tails back to the Senate.

I know that it is god's will to have you in the US Senate over that baby killer Bob Casey (yes I know he's pro-life), even though you don't even really live in Pennsylvania and even though you commited tax fraud. I know that people eventually accept the word of Christ, and re-elect you to the US Senate. Until then, may god continue to bless you and all of those who engage in man-on-dog, which is the same thing as consensual homosexual sex."

PS

Is it true that your name is Latin for asshole?

12. Those are my thoughts, too
Kids don't write enough letters so the practice is good. But telling them that the letters have to be positive is wrong on so many levels.

"Is the monkey suit making you do silly things? Aren't there enough airholes in the monkey suit? My dad says if you don't have enough air you pass out and fall down. Why do you fall down so much?

"Finally President Gore, thank you for what you have done for education. I was in the 2nd grade when you were elected and I haven't had to learn too much new since then because there is no money."

If the letter writing was a class assigment, it wouldn't bother me per se. But why did the entire the seventh grade have to do it, and why was it mandatory to be positive? What does THAT teach? Are the letters going to be graded, and not not, what will happen to them?

I'd call the school in the morning and ask if I were you.

I heard is he's only on kindergarden reading level and his favorite book is "My pet goat." If a teacher assigned my child to write to the sorry SOB AND it had to be a nice letter, I believe I'd be butting heads with a teacher. (I would have this teacher's job)

21. Your son and his teacher did the right thing.
I don't mind a writing lesson of a letter to Bush, and it stimulated your son to write about something of importance to him.

The fact the kids "don't like Bush" is neither here nor there. Let them put a few complaints in the letter. Or write about what they did on THEIR summer vacation, for a subtle jab, for all it matters.

34. yeah, how about a Letter to the Editor about something they care about,
or a letter to an author, etc. They definitely should have some choice in the matter.

Another reason (around #493) that I'm glad my kids don't go to school. This kind of stuff would drive me absolutely batshit crazy. Since I'm already going berserk after 56 mos. of Buschco (especially the past 3 weeks), I'd have gone over the edge by now. :-)

28. I guess I'm a real trouble maker, because I would NOT allow...
...my child to write this letter--if he or she did not want to "kiss up" to the pResident.

I would flat out tell the teacher, "My daughter does not like *. She does not wish to "kiss up" to the man. She will complete the assignment and write the letter, but she will write her own thoughts, her own words and her own opinions!"

This assignment is really disturbing. What are they teaching our children...not only to shut up and sit down when you disagree with leaders--but also--you must "kiss up" to them, even when you don't agree! What is this...some kind of lesson in fascism????

Maybe the teacher has a reason for telling them to write positive letters. I don't know.

However, telling our children to praise a man that they clearly can see is a worthless, lying, corrupt piece of poo---is teaching them to be unpatriotic and unAmerican. This flies in the face of democracy. This is the kind of assignment the little kids in North Korea are forced to complete!

NO WAY would I be going along with this!

35. This is a common practice. It's been going on for decades.
It is to teach the kids how properly interact with our Government and it's officials. How ever considering the atrocity that is President Bush. I think it is a disservice to the Children to conduct this lesson as Kiss Ass 101. Any educator that would teach mindless subservience to the future sovereigns of America should have their teaching credential revoked. They obviously don't have a firm grasp on the constitution. They should have to take continuing education courses on the Constitution. Concentrating on where the true power of America rests. At least until they kick in the door to the Oval Office to ask Bush what his fucking problem is. Others can kick in doors to congressional offices demanding to know why the idiot hasn't been impeached yet. Then they can regain their accreditation.

Face facts. It's past time for even the children to take the kid gloves off with Bush. Bush has already spent their money and is now spending their children's money. They have all right to ask him the hard questions and demand answers.

36. Woe be to the teacher who would instruct my 9-year-old son
to "not be negative". He stood up in class last year and recited part of a John Kerry campaign ad, ("The future doesn't belong to fear....")that I had no idea he KNEW. He hates Bush, and will not hesitate to be vocal about it; I usually don't know if I should be amused or mortified about this..came home a few months back to find him debating his Grandma (pro-Shrub and Mormon)about the Non-Christian aspect of the illegal war in Iraq.He was kickin' some right-wing butt, I gotta tell ya...I always caution him about the old 'religion and politics' adage, but he really has a mind of his own (LOVE that!).

Short and to the point. If it was one of those "minimum of 1000 words" deals, I could expand on it

38. If they "have" to write a letter then the kids should be allowed
(even encouraged) to be HONEST and express their personal opinion!!!

you can be honest while still being fairly polite but this teacher told the kids to "kiss up" and not write anything negative???

i'd be going to see the principle tomorrow--and make sure this shit gets put on this teacher's permanent record.

the assignment needs to be changed immediately (and a letter of apology needs to be sent home, explaining why the kids were told to "kiss up" and not write anything negative)

42. What percentage of the general population even knows what the DSM is?
That is one very-aware seventh grader. If I was in seventh grade right now I wouldn't have a clue. When I was in seventh grade, I was licking at the chops for Desert Storm because I thought the World War Two documentaries on A&E were so damn cool and I loved studying the military atlases, I couldn't wait for another huge tank war in the desert. I was actually UPSET when the land phase was over so quickly, I wanted to be like those guys in World War II that would have a map of Europe set up on a table and keep track of where the front lines were according to the radio reports. I was clueless and I didn't get a clue until a year after high school.
