Knight-Ridder columnist has had it with brain dead Bush bots
So I have a question for the Bush jihadists, that shrinking but stubborn minority that still thinks Dubya walks on water and calls down rain. What's it going to take to make you folks stop sending me e-mails by the dozens railing at how the great and powerful Bush is being mistreated by that darned liberal media?

Take, for instance, Tom in Boynton Beach, who says criticism of Bush is a sop to the "America-hating extreme left wing." Or Darwin -- I don't know where he's from -- who says liberals are playing "the blame game." And on and on.

It is, of course, their standard defense, akin to a child sticking index fingers in her ears and shouting "Lalalalala, I can't hear you!" until you stop committing the sin of reason. In this case, the argument goes that Bush is being blamed for failures that should be assigned to state and local officials in Louisiana and Mississippi. It's their fault, not his.

So to recap: Media say Bush bears responsibility. Much of the American public says Bush bears responsibility. In an unprecedented show of lucidity, Bush takes responsibility.

Bush jihadists say Bush is not responsible.

Seldom has the intellectual bankruptcy, situational outrage and robotic partisanship of that stratum of the electorate been more apparent. I swear, if Bush blew up the White House, they'd praise him for creating construction jobs.

Would you trust the gang that couldn't get water to Bogalusa for seven days to be in charge of rescuing you after a nuclear device went off in Los Angeles? Would you feel secure in devastated, cut-off-from-the-outside-world Miami Beach knowing your salvation relied on some guy who got his job because he had connections?

More to the point, is incompetence so profound it causes actual death OK so long as the incompetents are of the right party, possessed of the right values? Apparently, for some of us, the answer is yes.

Never mind integrity, never mind objectivity, never mind simple enlightened self-interest.

Blue to the left, red to the right even now, even here. This is the nation we have become.

Anybody want to take responsibility for that?

2. Pitts won the Pulitzer for commentary in 2004...
easy to see why, yeah?

One of the greatest things about the Miami Herald op-ed page these days.

6. Pitts has expressed
what I've been thinking for a while. It is shocking to hear some of the Republican callers to C-Span. They remind me of members of the Jim Jones cult. They kept their heads in the sand and wound up dead. The same with the followers of David Koresh. They paid dearly for not opening their eyes.

16. I'm convinced that most of the Bush supporters
who call in on C-Span come from a network of people hired by Rove to spread his talking points to any media outlet. The reason I say that is because on any new issue where the normal shills like Limbaugh and Hannity haven't spread the RNC talking points yet these callers are giving them on C-Span. I've noticed the host or guest comment many times to Bush supporters calling from the Pacific time zone, that they're up really early, especially between 6 and 6:30 Central time, which is 4 and 4:30am for the pacific time zone. Personally I think they're calling from a phone bank at the White House.

Many of the Republican callers do seem to spout the same message.

21. Doubt it's that traceable
meaning, I don't think it's a WH phone bank.

But there is most certainly an orchestrated phone-in and letter-writing group; there's just too much of the same stuff coming out at precisely the same time.

I never used to believe such things were possible until a few days after the election, when I heard this one weird theme being repeated in LTEs and phone calls: "I was a Gore voter, but Michael Moore and the extreme left wing turned me off the Democrats so I voted for Bush." You knew the writer/callers were full of shit, of course, but it happened so often I knew it wasn't organic in nature.

23. Wouldnt surprize me
we already know Bushco pays opinion columnists to spout his views. Not that big of a stretch to believe he pays people to call in to CSPAN and other shows.

7. Nominated! I COMPLETELY agree with the author!
I actually had one brain-dead Bushbot tell me that things like Abu Gharib and Jeff Gannon werent scandals. He then furthered his idiocy by saying that I should, quote "think for myself" and, again, I'm quoting "just because everything you dont like about Bush doesnt mean it's not a scandal. Watergate and Lewinsky were scandals." What complete and total bullshit!

I've had it with these idiots, too.

This guy sounds like your average DUer venting here, as opposed to a member of the dreaded and entirely fictional "liberal media."

It simply delights me to see this! I hope we see more.

11. If Bush broke in and raped their toddlers
They'd run out and get tshirts saying "Dubya fucked my kid, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt." Although they'd probably spell it "shurt."

These people really, seriously have to think about leaving our country. Soon. I suggest a nice, peaceful pacific isle. Krakatoa leaps to mind. Beautiful place as long as you're good at holding your breath.
