Hostile reception likely as Bush tours southern states

http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/provider/providerarticle.asp?feed=FT&Date=20050902&ID=5082411

George W. Bush will tour devastated southern US states on Friday amid criticism from stricken residents who have accused the president of being out of touch with their needs and too slow in reacting to the disaster.

Scarce food and water has led to widespread looting and arson fires in flood-ravaged New Orleans. The mayhem, which has included reports of shots being fired at helicopters, is hampering the evacuation as troops head in to control the violence.

Senior Pentagon officials said on Thursday that the National Guard force on the Gulf coast would be raised to 30,000, and 3,000 regular Army soldiers may also be sent in to tackle armed gangs that have looted stores across New Orleans.

For a country that has spent the four years since September 11 preparing for another major terrorist attack, the failure to prevent or mitigate such an enormous natural disaster is likely to set off fresh debate. Emergency management officials in Louisiana had warned for years that New Orleans would be unable to withstand such a big hurricane, but funding for plans to strengthen the levees and prevent floods has fallen by nearly half in the past four years.

6. Like everywhere else he goes...........
the only people allowed to have an audience with him will be those completely vetted and loyal. The poor, the homeless, the needy will not be allowed within his secure bubble area.
I do expect a photo-op with someone who'll say, "god bless you for doing all you can to help us". That, you can count on. Gotta' have those photo-ops for next year's fund raising calenders, you know? :eyes:

14. I'm sure the coward-in-chief will have himself kept way out of the areas
where the angry, little people are forced to gather. He will be safe and housed in some little Pope-mobile setup.

15. Oh, folks may be hostile
But I don't expect any of them will be allowed within shouting distance of His Imperial Chimpiness. Besides, Trent Lott's got some mint juleps cooling on the south veranda of his new house, and they aren't gonna drink themselves.

for this photo-op? Wait let me guess.....it's the khaki colored Eisenhower jacket w/ the blue checked shirt, khaki dockers w/ cowboy boots.

17. Cowboy style...
He was just in Mississippi, with what looked like his fake-ranch look minus the hat. Why does he stand with his arms so far away from his body? It's as if he's trying to puff himself up or to spread himself out like a peacock. He had the nerve to talk about having Trent Lott's house rebuilt as well as New Orleans. He really disgusts me.
