Yo Yo SUMMER BUNNIES:
With a little free time on my hands this summer (and reading about all the deaths in Iraq and our president's yackity-smackity about Iran), I finally cooked up something new, based on something old: a series of skeleton figures, a la the "Dance of Death" series that Hans Holbein made in the 1400's, when the Black Plague was decimating half the European population (Bush and his cronies are like the White Plague, no?)--and referencing Day of the Dead imagery in the Americas, south of the USofA (also Jose Posada's great "calaveras": skeleton figures satirizing the power mongers in Mexico around the turn of the 20th century, when Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata were leading the Mexican revolution). Big goofy drawings of the usual suspects as skeletons, including Condi as Darth Vader(!), rattlin dem bones. The first 4 are up on the site--click here or on the "ART" strip on the home page, then go to "DRAWINGS". Cheney and KKKarl Rove are next (oh, there's a new KKKarl in the "LA WEEKLY ARTBURN" section...check out the little turdfaced dirty trickster at your leisure).
