I think that's a good thing. It got old so fast. I'm almost tempted to say that if we didn't give up that cliche, then the terrorists would have already have won.

1. I saw a funny bit on some show...
"Mom, why do I have to clean up my room?"

"Becuase if I didn't make you, the terrorists would win."

2. you're absolutely right
Also if someone says "Y'notice no one says 'If X, then the terrorists have already won' anymore?" then the terrorists have already won.

Thanks for helping the terrorists.

6. I say it all the time
Makes my conservative co-workers squirm.

"If we don't have the client change his DNS values to point to us, the terrorists will have won."

7. Excellent. I used to use that line to get my students to turn in homework
But it was about a year and a half ago. I guess it got old to me coz I overused it or, being surrounded by teenagers, I have a low tolerance for trendy expressions. ...TO THE EXTREME!!

8. Ha, I love using trendy expressions...
To embarrass my nieces. I also enjoy using slang terms that you wouldn't expect to hear coming from a 33-year-old suburban white guy - from hip-hop slang to surfer-dude talk - said with a completely straight face and no real emphasis on anything. It's one of those things where after you drop it in, the conversation keeps going for a few seconds, and the other person's brain finally catches up, and you can see the, "Whaaaa?" expression on his or her face.

A former co-worker and I used to do this all the time to our manager who is a black lady in her 40s. She liked it because it was something she was used to with her family, but to hear a couple of white guys say something like this in a meeting,

"I think upper management is fronting us on this."
"For shizzle."

Amused her to no end.
